The Oscars 2023 have been especially memorable for Indians! Deepika Padukone was a presenter, Naatu Naatu won “best original song,” and our country bagged the first Oscar for an Indian production, marking a historic win!
Indians slayed not only at the event but also on the red carpet (or should I say beige carpet?) They proved that we can reach for the moon and the stars, all while looking drop-dead-gorgeous! Let’s take a look at what our people wore to the 2023 Oscars:
Deepika Padukone
The only Indian presenter at the Oscars, Deepika, ate on the red carpet and left no crumbs! Louis Vuitton finally gave our girl what she deserved as she arrived in a black custom gown from the French brand. I’m obsessed with how the off-shoulder velvet beaut was paired with a tourmaline drop necklace. Well done, Shaleena Nathani!

Natasha Poonawalla
Every time Ms Vaccine steps out, she creates an iconic fashion moment. Natasha Poonawalla walked the “beige carpet” in a body-hugging black latex gown from the brand Alaia. While the outfit may seem “too simple” for Natasha’s taste, she added her edge with a rather quirky gold clutch!

Ram Charan & Jr NTR
The RRR boys held the Oscar trophy and made sure they looked dapper while doing so. They nailed Indian menswear by wearing stunning black sherwanis. Ram Charan wore Shantanu & Nikhil, styled by Nikita Jaisinghani, while Jr NTR stunned in a Gaurav Gupta creation, styled by Ashwin Mawle.
Upasana Kamineni
While the husband stood out in black, his wife complemented him in ivory! Ram Charan’s wife, Upasana Kamineni, stayed true to her Indian roots by wearing an ivory silk saree designed by Jayanti Reddy. The saree’s elegant sheen was accessorised with a statement neckpiece.
Guneet Monga & Kartiki Gonsalves
Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga, directors and producers of the Indian documentary The Elephant Whisperers, won the country’s first Oscar for an Indian production! The women made sure they dressed their best for the moment as Kartiki dazzled in a shimmery blue gown by Rahul Mishra, while Guneet embodied Indian culture in a rani pink silk saree from Ekaya Banaras.
This year’s Oscars are definitely going to go down in Indian history. Let’s hope we continue to slay for many more years to come. Cheers to India!
