Plastic Surgery & Immortal Dadis: 8 Iconic Indian TV Serial Characters We Cannot Forget
From plastic surgery to coming back from the dead, Indian daily soaps have always had some interesting characters and storylines. You may not remember some of these logic-defying shows, but there’s no way you can forget the iconic characters they gave us! We loved some of them and loved to hate others, but all of them were amusing, brilliant and entertaining in their own way. And truth be told, we’re beginning to miss them a little bit.
Here are some Indian TV serial characters we just cannot forget.
1. Komolika From Kasautii Zindagii Kay
How can we forget this vamp who made it her life’s mission to keep Prerana and Anurag apart? Mind you, she did this while walking perfectly to the tune of ‘nikkaaa’ while twirling a lock of her hair. And no, we’re not talking about Hina Khan or Aamna Sharif, we’re talking about the OG Komolika Urvashi Dholakia.
2. Maya Sarabhai From Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai
This upper-class socialite mother-in-law couldn’t help but point out her bahu’s middle-class attitude. While she meant no harm, we don’t remember a single episode where she didn’t say, “Monisha beta, that’s so categorically middle class!” And her sassy comebacks and one-liners became so popular that the makers brought the show back for a second season!
3. Tulsi Virani From Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi
A husband who hid a child from his wife for 20 years, a superhuman bahu and an immortal Baa who lives on and on and on, this Indian TV serial remains unforgettable. But when we talk about this daily soap, the first person that pops into our minds is Tulsi Virani who was total #IndianBahuGoals. From solving problems by watering tulsi (the plant of course!) to coming back from the dead, this bahu gave us an inferiority complex. And let’s not forget her husband who also came back from the dead!
4. ACP Pradyuman From CID
From ‘Daya, kuch toh gadbad hai’ to ‘Darwaaza todd do!’, CID’s ACP Pradyuman left a mark on our minds. But we have to point out that the ACP has been working forever without a promotion!
5. Ramola Sikand From Kaahin Kissii Roz
While we all hated this vamp, we also secretly adored her style and we totally took makeup lessons from her. And it’s not like we can forget Ramola’s long bindis!
6. Hansa And Praful Parekh From Khichdi
Let’s face it, her English made us cringe and Praful’s explanations made it much much worse. They may have made Khichdi out of English but their perfect comic timing made this serial our favourite! But we could never get over Hansa’s ‘Hello, how are? Khaana khaake jaana, haan‘.
7. Daya Jethalal Gada From Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah
This conventional Indian housewife made her place in our hearts with her innocent but dramatic and hilarious take on every situation. But TBH, we’re not a fan of how her husband Jathalal treats her!
8. Jassi From Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahi
Jassi aka Jasmeet Walia was the classic example of what body shaming looks like. But Jassi’s transformation was one of the most memorable ones on Indian TV after she got rid of her dorky glasses and braces. More so, because Mona Singh made her TV debut with her character, no one had seen her sans glasses and braces!
They may be dramatic and sometimes even annoying, but these iconic characters from Indian TV serials have a place in our hearts. Our personal favourite is Komolika, what about you?
