5 Family Dramas To Watch This Weekend

I recently watched Manoj Bajpayee and Sharmila Tagore starrer, Gulmohar and it’s a heartwarming family drama! This series dwells on the lives of a multi-generation family prepping to move out of their 34-year-old home.

The show takes you on an emotional roller coaster. But don’t we all love that? There’s something about watching the ups and downs in these not-so-perfect families. The vile characters and their exploits actually put the ‘fun’ in dysfunctional. So, I made a list of shows you must watch if you love family dramas. Scroll down to read:

Gullak

If you haven’t watched this TVF Original, you’re really missing out on good content. This endearing web series tells the story of the Mishra family. There are no dramatic events happening in their lives. They are a typical middle-class family dealing with everyday struggles—noisy neighbours, rattling washing machines and kids complaining about the same dinner. That’s what makes it a relatable watch!

The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family

If Karan Johar were to direct this series, the tagline would be, ‘It’s all about fighting with your family.’ This one will introduce you to the always-bickering Ranawats. The show unpacks the secrets, lies and animosity between the family members. It may get overly dramatic, but it does have its fair share of heartwarming moments to keep you hooked.

Directed by Ekta Kapoor, this show chronicles the story of Sethis, who are getting by leading an ordinary, middle-class life. However, things turn upside down when they are handed an eviction notice. Who does family drama better than Ekta? No one peeps! Don’t worry, it’s no saas-bahu saga!

Watch it on JioCinema.

What The Folks

IMDb

This bite-sized series got rave reviews for being quirky and empathetic. The show depicts the life of a modern Indian family with millennial kids. You have seen women living with their in-laws. But this show features a man living with his wife’s family. Intrigued? Well, there’s a lot more that makes the show a relatable watch but I am not giving you any spoilers.

Potluck

IMDb

If you’re ever in need of a show that will make you chuckle while making you feel all warm and fuzzy, this is the one. The show revolves around the Shastri family, trying to find their place in the hustle-bustle of a large metropolitan city. Although the humour isn’t ‘LOL’ funny, it’s consistently enjoyable thanks to clever writing.

While families may not be, they are all that you need on a tough day. Right?
