#BeautyDiaries: The First Time I Tried To Sugar-Wax My Legs…

The first time I waxed my legs was when I was in Class 10. I was about 15 years old and clearly remember how loudly I screamed when the parlour lady pulled off the hot waxing strip from my skin. I trembled with pain and remember having to deal with a nasty rash soon after.

Over a period of time, I tried other hair removal methods. I didn’t want to do waxing so I chose to use a razor instead. A day after razing my legs, I woke up to razor bumps and cuts. I thought hair removal creams would be effective and less painful, but to my misfortune, I experienced a chemical reaction that burned my skin. This left me no option but to just take a break from all kinds of hair removal methods. I allowed my hair to grow naturally and took care of my skin by moisturizing it with cream every day.

One fine day, while I was at my best friend’s house, we got talking about embarrassing beauty blunders and experiences. She told me how one parlour lady once ruined the shape of her eyebrow and she looked like this angry person all week because of it. In the middle of all the laughter, she asked me, what was my most embarrassing beauty blunder?

Since she was my bestie, I didn’t shy away from telling her about my horrifying waxing experience. *Tsk Tsking* at me, she suggested that I give sugar waxing a shot. She explained to me that it was made from natural ingredients, and so, chances of it causing a chemical reaction on my skin was rare. Hearing that bit got me really excited to try it.

We headed to the kitchen, pulled out a pan, poured  ¼ cup of lemon juice, 2 cups of sugar and ¼  cup of water in it. Turned up the heat to high and kept stirring from time to time. We switched the stove from high to medium flame once the liquid turned into a brownish shade. It looked like honey and had almost the same consistency as that after 5-7 minutes.

We poured it into a round glass bowl. Scooped some of it on a knife and smeared the hot syrup on my leg. At first, it burned, but after a few seconds, I got used to it.  Using a waxing strip, I manage the pull the wax off with utter ease. The best part about the experiment is that it WORKED! My legs felt smooth and looked so clean!

Sugar waxing is not only fun to do, but it’s quite effective as well. My bestie deserves full credit for introducing me to this natural hair removal method. I personally think every girl should try it once, especially if she has sensitive skin like mine.
