I Swapped My Facewash With Ubtan For A Month and Here’s What Happened

I Swapped My Facewash With Ubtan For A Month and Here’s What Happened

I got married last month and unlike most brides who start prepping for their wedding 3-6 months before the wedding, I had less than 30 days. Thanks to all the time I was spending getting ready for my wedding, my skin was slightly tanned and very dull. There was a mild breakout on my chin (I let my dermatologist handle that) but mostly, my skin lacked THAT glow.

Just like anyone else, I wanted to look my best and start making small changes in my beauty routine. But the gist of it was that I stopped using too many skincare and makeup products.

I went back to my roots and started using an ubtan instead of my facewash. Facewashes actually.

I usually use a mild cleanser or a foamy facewash in the morning before I put on my makeup and head for work. Then I use Nivea’s Micellar Water as well as a heavy duty facewash like Glamglow’s Galactic Cleanser (Rs 3,000) to make sure I got my base and my oil-based lipsticks off. Sometimes I brought in a third facewash into the mix if one wasn’t enough. You get the drift.

Yeah, I let it all go and started using plain water in the morning. Before I stepped into the shower, I started applying this face ubtan every morning. Here’s a DIY recipe, or you could even invest in a store bought version.

Make Yourself An Ubtan

You Need

1 Tbsp gram flour (besan)

1 tsp sandalwood

1-2 Tbsp raw milk

How To

I used a face mask brush to make sure I put it with the same consistency and uniformity over my face. I kept it on for 5 minutes (or less) and washed it off with cold water.

On weekends, when I had some more time, I also added a pinch of turmeric. A lot of people add lemon juice but since I wasn’t trying to lighten my skin, I stayed off it.

P.S. Here are a few things you can do at home for glowing skin.

Did It Work?

In the first week, there was barely a change. I was just happy that I was sticking to a limited set of beauty products.

Slowly, there was a change in texture and a hint of a glow.

I noticed a huge change when there were probably 12 days left for the wedding. My sister noticed that my skin looked more even-toned (sans concealer) than usual. When I examined my skin, it was less reddened.

I think the biggest compliment for me would be my makeup artist telling me he didn’t have to do layers of makeup because my skin was more or less OK (my eyes needed help though).

I continue to do this after the wedding. But I only apply an ubtan once a day now.

If I’m putting on makeup, I need something stronger in the evenings. I also noticed that the blackheads (on my nose) were a lot lesser than usual, so the overall health of my skin seems to be getting better.

There are days when I’m running late for work and I wash it off when it’s half-dry. Then, I met a natural skincare expert who suggested washing off all face masks when half-dry to avoid fine lines and signs of ageing.

The ubtan I’m lately using is Dr Deepali Bharadwaj’s Facial Ubtan With Fuller’s Earth (Rs 850). It also has Jadhikal, sandalwood and green gram powder. Unfortunately, she doesn’t sell it online but if you’re in Delhi, you can go to her clinic.
