This Correct Way To Remove Eye Makeup Without Damaging Your Skin

With face masks being made mandatory around the world, many are forgoing their lippies and focusing on the eye area. From the watercolour eye makeup trend to the neon liner to adding embellishments around the eyes, the list of choices are endless, but we’re not here to educate you on how to apply eye makeup, rather what to do when the time comes to remove it.

Did you know that the eye section is one of the first places to show signs of ageing and wrong makeup removers as well as the incorrect process of wiping away your eye makeup can result in fine lines around the eyes? Whether you’ve gone full glam with your eye makeup or just used a simple liner, if you have the habit of pulling and tugging the skin just to get out all the residue, you need to stop ASAP. We understand that nowadays, since most products are smudge-proof, and waterproof, getting it off takes a little effort but this is no excuse to adopt a harsh cleansing process.

Since the skin around the eyes is extremely delicate, pulling and tugging can result in breakage of delicate blood vessels which leads to the dreaded ‘crow’s feet’.

The Correct Way To Remove Eye Makeup

Don’t worry, we aren’t going to leave you high and dry when it comes to this eye makeup dilemma. Scroll down to learn the right way to remove your eye makeup, including any stubborn residue without damaging the skin.

Step 1: Wash Your Hands

This shouldn’t come as a surprise since we’re now living in the corona-era. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly with an antibacterial hand wash to get rid of any germs or bacteria that could cause eye or skin irritation if it transferred to the face.

Step 2: Don’t Scrub Off The Makeup

Many people are guilty of pulling the skin while using a makeup remover in order to eliminate every speck of makeup on the skin — this leads to skin damage. Instead, just add a bit of makeup remover on a cotton pad and gently dab in soft circular movements to loosen up the makeup.

Step 3: Use A Gentle Cleanser

The cleansing process doesn’t end at makeup remover. Once you’re done, use a gentle cleanser to get rid of all the dirt, leftover makeup particles and even some chemicals left behind from your makeup remover. When you’ve accomplished this, add your eye cream and seal in the hydration by directly adding a moisturiser. This will ensure that you’re left with soft, smooth skin and you needn’t worry about dealing with early signs of ageing.

Pro Tip: If you went heavy with the eye makeup, soak two cotton pads in face mist or even water and keep it on your eyes for about 15 minutes. This will not only help loosen up that stubborn makeup but also give you a couple of minutes of relaxation.

Step 4: Don’t Be Afraid To Double Cleanse

Waterproof makeup is a lot tougher to remove and just one simple cleanse won’t give you a fresh, clean face, but this doesn’t give you the excuse to use more force to remove your makeup either. Instead, in such situations, you need to double cleanse. This method gets rid of any stubborn residue, leaving your skin clean and bare to take in all the nutrients your serums and moisturisers have to offer.

No matter what eye makeup look you’re going for today, make sure to keep these tips in mind when it comes to removing it.
