Did You Apply Too Much of Hair Oil? Here’s What You Should Do After!

Oiling your hair is essential, and everyone needs to do it at least once a week for healthy locks. Very often, some of us get too carried away with oiling our hair that we end up applying too much of it. Because of this, our hair turns greasy and sticky. It then is a task to remove the excess oil from the hair. The next time this happens to you, here’s what you need to do!

5 Ways To Remove Excess Oil From The Hair

Don’t worry! It’s easier than you think *Wink*

Wash Your Locks With A Clarifying Shampoo

What makes clarifying shampoo unique and special is that it is specifically formulated with synthetic ingredients that help to wash away dirt, mineral deposits due to hard water, product residue and excess oil. If you style your hair often, use lots of styling products, or ended up using too much hair oil — this shampoo will allow your hair to reset back to its natural state. A clarifying shampoo helps wash off any product build-up on your hair and scalp that your regular shampoo missed. Use it once a week to keep your hair squeaky clean, but don’t forget to condition afterwards.

The More Lather, The Better

Using a shampoo with sulfates to get rid of excess oil on the hair can actually be a good idea. A shampoo that contains sulfates is bound to provide a foamy lather after mixing with water. Shampoos that contain sulfates also do a great job at washing away grime, dirt, oil and dead skin cells. Sulfate shampoos have a bad rep because they strip the hair from its natural oils and moisture. However, when used in the right quantity, they are generally safe to use.

Condition Your Hair To Prevent It From Drying Out

All that shampooing is going to give you squeaky clean locks no doubt, but it’s going dry your hair out at the same time. To prevent this from happening, apply conditioner or a hydrating hair mask to oily hair first and then wash both the oil and the conditioner with a clarifying shampoo. This will ensure that your locks do not dry out.

Blotting Paper Works Like A Charm

You can use a strip of blotting paper on your bangs to absorb excess oil. Since most blotting sheets are made from rice paper and have oil-absorbing transparent powder on them, they will do a fine job at absorbing excess oil from the hair.

Dry Shampoo To The Rescue

The more dry shampoo product you use on your hair, the more oil it absorbs. You will then have to brush your hair to remove the excess oil and powdery residue and then wipe your hair with a warm, damp towel. In the next hour, wash your hair with water and shampoo to prevent the product residue from collecting on the scalp and irritating it.

What Are Things To Keep In Mind Before Oiling Your Hair?

Too much of oil can feel too heavy on the scalp and weigh the hair down. To create balance, mix 2 tbsps of hair oil with 1 tbsp of water. Then, apply the diluted hair oil to damp hair. This technique helps to evenly distribute the oil on the scalp and coat every strand. In addition, oil your hair an hour before you go for a head bath. This way, you give the oil some time to do its job. It will nourish the scalp and make the locks smooth and shiny. After an hour, wash your hair with lukewarm water and shampoo. This method helps to remove excess oil and does not make your hair look greasy or sticky post a head bath.

Ladies, now that you how to remove excess oil from your hair, we hope you never have to deal with greasy roots ever again. Good luck!
