Have You Found ‘The One’? How To Choose The Right Moisturiser For Your Skin Type

No matter your skin type, the epidermis deserves hydration all year round in order to keep it soft, supple and hydrated. Moisturising your skin has an endless amount of short- and long-term benefits like reducing the signs of premature ageing, bringing back the skin’s radiance, eliminating pigmentation and reviving dull and tired skin. But before you go out and buy any random cream or body lotion, you need to understand that not all skincare products are made the same and it’s important to pick the right product that will make your skin happy rather than cause further damage.

Lucky for you, we’ve listed down the right type of moisturiser you need for your skin type. These moisturisers are enriched with ingredients to suit your skin type and bring back the glow. Keep on reading to know more.

Dry Skin

If your skin feels too tight after a bath or it looks scaly, prone to flakes or just scratching the skin makes it look like a chalkboard then you fall on in the dry skin category. People can either have dry skin all year long or only during winters, regardless, if your skin checks out any of the top issues, you need creams that will lock in the moisture and keep the skin supple.

If you suffer from flaky skin, you need to feed your skin with plenty of moisturisers. The moisturisers for dry skin are enriched with ingredients that attract moisture from the environment and draw it deep into your dermis while strengthening the skin’s barrier. Look for products with high natural oil or emollient content and vitamin C. Since dry skin is more prone to fine lines, you can also include anti-ageing creams to your beauty routine.

Oily Skin

If your skin feels greasy all the time and you can’t seem to cut ties with acne, blackheads and pimples, then you have oily skin. Even though those with this skin type need to deal with excess sebum production, it doesn’t excuse you from using a moisturiser. If you have oily skin, it’s important to choose the right cream in order to avoid any further breakout.

Since there is an excess amount of sebum production, it’s important to use a cream or moisturiser that won’t block the pores. Lightweight water-based moisturisers with astringent properties are your best bet as these products detoxify your skin and also reduce sebum production, keeping the skin clear and soft.

Homemade Moisturizers

Combination Skin

This is the most difficult skin type to treat. With combination skin, you need to deal with both oily and dry skin simultaneously. Those with oily skin, have an oily t-zone while the cheek area is completely dry and parched. This requires two types of formulas to keep the skin hydrated and healthy.

Since your skin is of two types, you need to use two different moisturisers. One for your t-zone and the other for the rest of your face. For the oily part of your skin, opt for a lightweight gel that isn’t heavy on the skin and won’t block pores. You can also use a mattifying cream with ingredients such as rice powder or tea tree oil to control oil production.

Normal Skin

If you are blessed with normal skin, then count your blessings. Those with normal skin have an equal balance of dry and oil in the dermis, so almost all skincare products available in the market work for them.

For normal skin type, opt for lightweight creams or those that contain antioxidants to help you get the plump, soft and smooth skin.

Go on and give your skin the proper nourishment it needs.
