We, women, experience several terrible things throughout our lifetime. However, nothing is worse than our parents, out of all people, saying something terrible about us because it sticks with our souls until our last breath. Here, a few women share comments from their parents that broke their hearts.
In all honesty, even though we were prepared for the responses to be grave, nothing could have had us mentally equipped for things we were told. We individually took consent for the answers to be included here, and we send love to all women who have gone through something similar.
1. “I was told that my parents and family didn’t want me (a woman) and wished for a man because they already had four sisters. Even though they say it as a joke, it hurts and breaks my heart.” -Aarushi S
2. “My mother told me that my late father, and his family, wanted to abort me. Their doctor was a distant family member and had already told them that it was a girl. However, my mother was adamant and didn’t abort me. It still gives me chills.” -Anonymous
3. “My father once told me not to wear revealing clothes because I have a “vibe” that might attract men’s attention. I have been scared to wear such clothes ever since, even though I don’t live with him anymore.” -Anonymous
4. “ They said, ‘we hope you die’ because I told them that I was bisexual.” -Riddhima K
5. “My mother asked me to stop using make-up because I would never be ‘beautiful’ even if I put 100 layers on my dusky skin. Well, I have made a successful career in modeling now and I feel fricking beautiful.” -Anonymous
6. “You can’t be our daughter because you are so weak emotionally.” -Anonymous
7. “When I was 20, my father told me that I would be a terrible wife and daughter-in-law if I didn’t learn how to cook or clean the house. I’m married now – my husband cooks and my mother-in-law cleans the house, while I’m working in the office. My father couldn’t have been more wrong.” -Mansi
8. “I told them that I was teased and molested by a family friend, and I want to file a police complaint. They said, ‘We support you and love you, but let’s not talk about this ever again’. It was the last time I ever spoke to them.” -Anonymous
9. “We wish you were half as good as your younger sister.” -Anonymous
10. “I was about ten and was crying for a game or something in the market, like any normal child. My mother shushed me and said that she would leave me in a dungeon if I didn’t stop crying and nagging. It was the last time I ever asked for something. Even though it was a ‘joke’, it hurt so bad.” -Sakshi S
Horrible and unacceptable are the only two words to describe these experiences. To everyone everywhere, don’t have a child if you are capable of saying these things to your off-spring.
