The Reason You Might Be Gaining Weight: Hormones!

With an increase in genetically modified products and fast foods in our daily diet, hormonal imbalance has become quite common in women. While many people take the issue lightly, for our body, hormonal imbalance is actually as destructive as an imbalanced universe.

Hormonal imbalance doesn’t just cause weight gain, but also makes it difficult for the body to lose that weight. And all of it basically depends on the production of estrogen and progesterone. These are the hormones released by the ovaries to help women with their menstrual cycle and fertility. These hormones need to be balanced. Usually, a lack of progesterone and a high level of estrogen cause weight issues in women. From irregular periods to weight gain to hair loss, these hormones are responsible for a lot.

How does estrogen and progesterone imbalance help in weight gain?

Higher estrogen level lead to problems like depression, anxiety, and poor sleep. It increases sugar cravings and your body starts storing fat. More estrogen causes more fatty tissue growth and in return, they produce more estrogen.

Estrogen is also responsible for where the fat needs to be distributed in the body. In case of an imbalance, fat starts making a layer around our stomach area. It interferes with the function of the thyroid gland and blocks TBG (a protein) hormones, which are produced by liver due to low progesterone.

What may cause hormonal imbalance?

For some, it’s their menstrual cycle, poor nutrition or lack of exercise; for others, it can be contraceptive pills. The pill contains synthetic progestin which lowers progesterone level.

How can you fix it?

Balancing estrogen and progesterone is the only key to this problem. Take care of the following things and visit a specialist to correct this imbalance.

– Stop taking a contraceptive pill without consulting a doctor.

– Eat less processed and GMO food.

– Be conscious about the nutrients you are welcoming inside your body.

– Make exercise a part of your daily routine.

Don’t rush for the results, it takes a while for hormones to restore, so be easy on yourself.
