It is not easy to drape a saree. But girl, it is so worth the effort!
Sarees have always been a wardrobe staple for Bollywood divas. From red-carpet events to promotional looks, a saree never fails to impress. This explains why Hollywood girls haven’t been left untouched by the charms of the six yards ether. Many of the global stars have given us iconic looks by embracing sarees. Here’s a list:
Zendaya
The launch of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Convention Centre (NMACC) was attended by the biggest names in Bollywood and Hollywood. Zendaya was also among the guests who walked the red carpet in a stunning, custom-made Rahul Mishra saree. The saree was an extension of the designer’s “Cosmos” collection and came with a golden blouse that featured Mishra’s signature 3D design.
Gigi Hadid
Another Hollywood star who looked breathtaking in a saree at the NMACC launch was Gigi Hadid. The supermodel “lived her Bollywood dream” in a custom Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla ivory chikankari saree paired with a temple jewellery-inspired blouse that was dripping in gold. This was undeniably one of her most memorable looks!
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian stunned us in a sexy saree by Sabyasachi for a magazine cover photoshoot in 2018. Hand-embroidered metallic sequins and beads adorned the scarlet chiffon drape. It was worn over a matching bralette-style blouse. NGL, there’s nothing Kim K cannot pull off!
Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez made headlines in 2014 when she surprised her fans by stepping out in a saree. As a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, the singer donned the desi look for a charity event in Nepal. She looked stunning in an orange silk saree, bindi, and traditional red bangles.
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton loves wearing Indian designers. Every time she has visited India to promote her brands, she has made an effort to blend in with the local culture. In 2013, the actress wore a bright pink saree that she draped stylishly to promote her luxury brand.
She also wore a gorgeous grey Tarun Tahiliani saree that was embellished with sequins and pearls.
Lady Gaga
In 2013, Lady Gaga arrived in India for the Grand Prix inaugural. The singer stunned everyone when she appeared on stage wearing an ivory Tarun Tahiliani saree. It was styled with a statement kamarbandh which added to the desiness of the drape.
Naomi Campbell
In 2009, Naomi Campbell showed us how to wear a saree like a supermodel. She walked the ramp for Sabyasachi in a sheer black saree featuring a glittering golden border. It was a sequinned gold petticoat that became the highlight of her look.
Elizabeth Hurley
Back in 2008, Elizabeth Hurley gave the desi divas a run for their money in an ombre pink saree during a Mumbai event. The gorgeous saree was adorned with sequins and paired with a spaghetti-style blouse that matched its border.
Madonna
Madonna embraced spiritualism at the height of her career and gave up many aspects of her life. In 1998, the singer wore a blue saree to promote Indian art and culture, tradition, and values around the world. Madonna styled it with statement oxidised jewellery and looked divine!
Well, this is proof that a saree can make every woman look good, no matter where she is from!
