- On the next morning, near and dear ones gather to smear each other’s faces, offer sweets, drink & enjoy lip-smacking snacks.
- The most popular Holi dishes are gujjiyas, puran poli, thandaai, and bhaang.
- In other parts of India, people roast barley seeds in fire and eat them. In North and East India, Holi festival rituals include Kavi Samelans. People also offer fruits, coconuts to the holy fire in South India before playing with colours.
Holika Dahan Celebrations
Holika Dahan is also popularly known as Choti Holi. The auspicious festival marks the victory of good over evil. It also celebrates the Hindu God Krishna, and the legend of Holika and Prahlad. Holi rituals for newly married couples include preparing a puja thali with essentials such as haldi, kumkum, kalash of water, chandan, rice, flowers, gulal, jaggery, and coconut.
Play Of Colours
Holi is the day when people from all walks of life are enthusiastic about playing with colours. People smear each other’s faces with colours, throw water-filled balloons, and dance like there’s no tomorrow. It’s the perfect occasion to resolve issues with people and make up for anything wrong that might’ve happened in the past. And of course, there’s a lot of dance and bhaang to go with it.
