Yeh Outfit Kya Kehlata Hai: Hina Khan’s Sari Is A Lesson In How Not To Wear Fusion Fashion
We love wearing Indian wear and we love dressing up in western wear too. But do we love the fusion of these two completely different styles? Also, yes! However, fusion wear can get a little tricky because one can easily go overboard while including traditional and western elements in one look. The key, now read this part carefully, is to know where to stop. Take Hina Khan’s latest look for example. The actress has successfully shown us how not to do fusion fashion.
At the Iconic Woman Of The Year Awards 2020 yesterday, Hina Khan was honoured as the ‘Inspiring Woman of the Year’. This award meant a great deal to the Bollywood newbie given the occasion of International Women’s Day. We are happy for her too! However, it’s her bizarre outfit that is not winning any awards from us. Except for maybe the Yeh-Outfit-Kya-Kehlata-Hai Award.
In case you are wondering what is she wearing, I’ll tell you. In an outfit by Pasha India, Hina’s attempt at Indo-western involved a set of off-white printed dhoti pants and cropped top, an organza shirt with an attached belt over the crop top, and a red printed sari. If you ask me, my mind feels Hacked, geddit geddit?
She completed the look with oxidised silver jewellery in the form of a statement choker necklace and matching bangles as well as a pair of transparent heels. I, for a fact, also like her hair and makeup. I mean, who doesn’t look drop-dead-gorgeous in the smokey eye and nude lipstick combination?! But that outfit is something. Upon some digging, I discovered that Hina’s stylist paired the Roop suit and the Agni sari by the brand in one OOTD. Check it out:
Now, the real question is–why? The suit set in itself is a fusion. Add a sari to that scenario and you have the recipe for an OTT outfit. Unnecessary elements don’t mean something is fashionable or stylish. Hina could have worn a good ol’ sari to receive the award, don’t you think? What do you think? Crush or crash?
