Hina Khan sure did India proud at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2019. The actress made her first-ever red carpet appearance in a gorgeous grey embellished gown by designer Ziad Nakad. While many celebrities lauded Hina’s look as well as her achievement, the actress also received backlash from people who felt that she didn’t belong on the red carpet. Soon enough, her debut turned into a debate.

Recently, a top Indian journalist posted a story on Instagram mocking Hina Khan’s Cannes debut. He shared a picture of the actress posing at the red carpet and captioned it, “Cannes has suddenly become Chandivali studios kya?”. Referring to Chandivali, the neighborhood in Mumbai, India.
He also posted a cryptic quote as an Instagram story as well:
The editor’s comment and insinuations did not go down well with Hina’s friends and colleagues from the industry. TV actors Arjun Bijlani, Karanvir Bohra, Divyanka Tripathi, Nia Sharma and Gauhar Khan openly slammed Jitesh for disregarding Hina’s achievements.
Even Ekta Kapoor, who is one of Jitesh’s close friends, called out the editor on Instagram.
Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut’s sister, Rangoli Chandel, also extended her support to Hina and yet again thrashed the notion of nepotism in Bollywood. She wrote:
While many questioned Hina Khan’s credibility for being at Cannes, her boyfriend Rocky Jaiswal stood by her and slammed Jitesh Pillai for his insensitive comment.
Hina Khan didn’t take Jitesh’s criticism by laying low either. She gave it back to him and all her haters by taking to social media and telling everyone that she is proud to be from Chandivali and respects her humble origins. She wrote:
“I was persistent, I am constant and I will be efficient again and again and again. Don’t know where I belong, don’t know if I have to, the places don’t define me because as always, I will work my ass off and I will make my own place! My promise, a proud outsider from my Chandivali Studio!”
Afterward, Jitesh apologized to the Kasautii actress in an Instagram story stating that his comment was misconstrued.
Hina immediately accepted the editor’s apology and wrote back, “Dear Jitesh Pillai, thank you for acknowledging it and thank you for your good wishes, wish you the same, regards, Hina Khan.”
All’s well that ends well?
