Dill Mill Gaye

Dupattas flying across hospital corridors. Love at first sight when medical interns accidentally bumped into each other. Docs communicating their love aankho aankho mei–in the middle of a surgery! In the real world, this may seem like the medical fraternity’s worst nightmare. However, back in 2007, it was romanticised in the popular television soap Dill Mil Gayye which garnered a huge fanbase. It was the show that every 90s kid would finish their homework for. The reward? Uninterrupted 30 minutes of Dr. Armaan Malik spelling magic on the various Riddhima Guptas, who starred during the show’s three-year-long run on Star One. If you’ve been wondering what these docs are up to now, keep scrolling:

The leading man of the show–Dr. Armaan Malik–could heal patients just with his smile. The actor made girls swoon with this chocolate boy looks and romantic gestures for Dr. Riddhima Gupta. After his stint as the cutesy doc, Karan starred in hit television shows like Qubool Hai and Bollywood movies like Alone and Hate Story 3. He is currently married to actress Bipasha Basu and enjoying fatherhood. The couple welcomed their baby girl Devi in November 2022.

Dr. Riddhima Gupta 1.0  (Shilpa Anand)

Shilpa Anand played the female protagonist in the first season of Dill Mill Gayye in 2007 and was the most popular Riddhima out of the three actresses who played the character. The actress featured in a host of movies like Iqraar by Chance, Deewane Ho Gaye, Alert 24×7, Bloody Isshq, and Yeh Hai Lollipop. However, she went MIA soon after and legally changed her name to Ohanna Shivanand in 2015. In 2020, she was in the news for accusing her sister’s mother-in-law of trying to kill her and her mother. The case was shut due to lack of evidence and Ohanna now lives with her mother and her dog.

Dr. Riddhima Gupta 2.0 (Sukriti Kandpal)

Instagram

Sukriti replaced Ohanna as Dr. Riddhima in the show in 2008. However, the actress quit the show in 2009 as she thought “the show was going nowhere” and she “couldn’t see a better future”. Following her exit, she starred in popular television shows like Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani, Kaala Teeka, Delhi Waali Thakur Girls, and Story 9 Months Ki.

Dr. Riddhima Gupta 3.0 (Jennifer Winget)

In 2009, Jennifer replaced Sukirti as Riddhima Gupta in the show. The actress also started dating her co-star Karan Singh Grover around the same time and the couple got married in 2012. However, in 2014, they filed for a divorce calling their marriage a “big mistake”. The actress then went on to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s television show Saraswatichandra as Kumud Desai opposite Gautam Rode. She has several hit shows like Beyhadh and Code M to her credit.

Dr. Shashank Gupta (Mohnish Bahl)

Popular actor Mohnish Bahl played the serious senior doc in the show and was widely loved for his part. He also starred in a reboot of his 2002 medical drama Sanjeevani between 2019-20 and played Balaji Bajirao in 2019 period film Panipat

Dr. Armaan’s cheeky best friend, Atul tickled the audience’s funny bone and was loved for his character’s innocence on the show. Pankit was last seen in the TV show Janam Janam Ka Saath, which recently went off air.

Dr. Anjali Gupta (Sunaina Gulia)

Dr. Atul was head over heels for Dr. Anjali, who never really took him seriously. Their funny chemistry kept the fans glued to their screens. The actress was last seen on screen in 2013 in Adaalat opposite Ronit Roy.

Dr. Muskaan Chadda (Drashti Dhami)

Drashti essayed the role of Dr. Muskaan Chadda, a small-town girl keen on making a mark in the medical world. The actress has had a prolific television career with hits like Madhubala and Geet-Hui Sabse Parayi to her credit. She was last seen in Nikhil Dwivedi’s period drama The Empire in 2021.

Dr. Abhimanyu Modi (Amit Tandon)

Instagram

Amit Tandon garnered a huge fan following after participating in the reality show Indian Idol in 2005. The singer then turned actor and starred in television shows like Dill Mill Gayye and Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki in 2018.

Dr. Nikita Malhotra (Shweta Gulati)

Shweta Gulati rose to fame for her portrayal of a hoity toity teenager Tia Ahuja in the hit TV drama Remix in 2004. She also starred in DMG as Dr. Nikita Malhotra and was last seen in Sab TV’s serial Partners Trouble Ho Gayi Double in 2017.

Here’s hoping for a reboot of Dill Mill Gayye to find out how their love stories panned out several years later. Fingers crossed!
