Here’s Everything That’s Wrong With Kangana Ranaut’s Lock Upp & Why We Don’t Need Another Season
Ekta Kapoor’s Lock Upp has become one of the most popular reality shows in India right now. Over the next two weeks, we will know the first winner of the series and we’re sure that soon, the makers will release its second season as well. Honestly, that’s quite concerning. While the show’s concept of roping in controversial celebs as contestants sounded interesting at first, it has now become a nightmare. The recent episodes are proof that Lock Upp has turned into an ugly hostile jail for real and the players are truly behaving like violent kaidis.
From the new wild card entree Prince Narula to Azma Fallah, every contestant in the jail is either getting violent or crossing boundaries by uttering complete BS. Take a look at this disturbing video to know what we’re talking about:
Here’s everything that’s wrong with Lock Upp and why releasing its second season can be a complete disaster:
Unacceptable Level Of Violence
Zeeshan Khan was recently evicted from the show for getting violent with Azma. He pulled her hair through a towel, poured protein powder all over her head and even hit her in the eye with a broom. The makers did not make any effort to intervene and end the fight, and later spared the actor after assigning him a trivial punishment. That’s not just problematic but quite dangerous as well. Sadly, Zeeshan is not the only one who has attacked other contestants in the house. Karenvir Bohra and Chetan Hansraj have been physically aggressive as well. We wonder at what point will the makers realise that it’s not entertaining but actually disturbing for viewers to see such violent acts on national television?
What Sh*t Are These Kaidis Speaking?
While Zeeshan got eliminated for attacking Azma, the kind of rubbish the actress spoke was unacceptable as well. From talking about Prince’s ex-girlfriends to making personal remarks on other contestants, she has been doing it all. But again, the makers have decided to act tone-deaf because somehow, they think that it’s okay for her to harass other kaidis mentally (it’s not). Apart from her, contestants including Munawar Faruqi, Poonam Panday and Anjali Arora have demeaned other contestants’ professions, made ageist remarks and insensitive comments several times. How and why is it all acceptable? Why are the kaidis not being held accountable for their words?
The Audience Choosing The Lesser Of Two Evils
The saddest part is that viewers are choosing one evil over the other and justifying their fave contestants’ wrong acts. While certain netizens slammed Zeeshan for getting violent with Azma, several fans supported him and thought that the actress ‘deserved’ it. Well, here’s the thing—both Azma and Zeeshan are wrong and neither violence nor verbal harassment is acceptable. The show is clearly influencing the audience in a problematic way if they’re finding any of this alright.
The first season of Lock Upp has been quite controversial and we’re not sure if we want to watch its second instalment.
