6 Do’s And Don’ts To Take Your Mane Game To Next Level
Do: Know Your Hair Type
It’s time to get up close and personal with your locks and list down what you see – tight coils, S-shaped curls, or zig-zag strands? Knowing your hair type helps in scouting out products formulated exactly for your hair types and texture. There is no point wasting your hard-earned $$$ on something that isn’t for you. Catch our drift?
Do: Replace Your Hairbrush Regularly
You might have heard that cleaning your hair brush once a month is a pretty good baseline because it can turn into a dirt-diluted, dust-laden, and bacteria-infested tool. Your hairbrush picks up all the itsy-bitsy lingering hair products, excess hair, and scalp debris which gets built up on your hairbrush. That said, it’s super important to clean your hairbrush every 2 weeks or every month.
Do: A Weekly HAIRcial
Who said #SelfCareSundays are only reserved for skincare – don’t you think your locks deserve some TLC too? Give your tresses a much-needed pampering by doing a #Haircial. Start off with a scalp detox mask to get rid of any buildup, followed by a uber-nourishing hair mask to hydrated parched-AF locks. Apply an overnight mask or hair oil at the last step if your tresses are begging for it. Do this once a month and thank us later!
Do: Know Your Hair Porosity
Knowing how well your hair absorbs things like water, moisture, and hair care products can help you choose the right products. You can easily check your hair’s porosity by dropping a single strand of hair into a glass of water and examining the amount of moisture it absorbs. If your strand floats at the top, this indicates your hair has low porosity. If it floats in the middle, it has medium porosity. If it sinks, it has high porosity. Folks with low porosity can prioritize water-based products and lightweight oils that absorb quickly without feeling too heavy. Those with medium porosity can focus on strengthening treatments while those with high porosity can invest in leave-in oils and rich butters that lock moisture down for good.
Do: Pay Attention To Your Scalp
Remember happy scalp = healthy hair. It’s important to give your scalp a detox and nix any buildup to ensure better penetration of haircare products. Cleansing exfoliators and clarifying shampoos will give the scalp an all-over cleanse. We recommend doing a weekly scalp detox. In addition to that, it’s important to use scalp masks, serums, and SPFs, which are damn important ‘coz your scalp is always exposed to the sun.
Don’t Overload On Haircare Products
We know, we know. It’s super hard to stop trying different oils and products but the truth is it’s best to take a less-is-more approach when it comes to hair care. When you slap on mask after mask, cream after cream, and oil after oil – you are suffocating your scalp. This can lead to product buildup and a range of hair concerns.
Say hi to healthier-looking strands!
