I Asked My Guy Friends To Comment On My Fave Lip Colours, And THIS Is What I Got…

Here’s the scenario every time I put on a face (slang for putting on make-up), I dress up, and I go and meet my friends, most of whom are men, for some reason. Ladies, hit me up if you want to be BFFs. Anyway, either I am told that  I have too much gunk on my face and they’re afraid I’ll rub things off on their shirt, or when I go for a nude look, they think I’m tired or sick. All in all, they ALWAYS have an opinion. Another thing that I have noticed is that these opinions are almost always related to my lipstick colours and not anything else on my face. So, to have my own fun, I set up a little lipstick pop quiz for them!

The Setup:

5 lipstick shades, 4 questions, 3 men a.k.a lab rats!

The 3 Guys:

Boy 1: 24, Copywriter

Boy 2: 26, First Officer (doesn’t mind being called captain *wink*)

Boy 3: 30, Runs a digital ad agency

The Questions:

  1. What colour do you think it is? (This question was just to prove that men cannot differentiate colour.)
  2. What do you think about the colour? (Eg. If a woman has this colour on, what would you think about the woman)
  3. Where should I wear this colour? (Eg. Work, wedding, costume party, whatever.)
  4. On a scale of very approachable to intimidating. Rate each colour.

How it went down…

Lipstick #1: Bright tangerine

When I have this lipstick shade on, I feel really peppy. It makes me feel a little brighter. I would wear this shade at a pool party or brunch.

Want this pop of colours? Get Colorbar Matte Touch Lipstick – Orange Punch (Rs 550).

1. What colour do you think it is?

Boy 1: Orange

Boy 2: I want to say orangish

Boy 3: Orange

2. What do you think about the colour? (Eg. If some woman has this colour on, what would you think about the woman)

Boy 1: Just the word ‘POP’ comes to mind.

Boy 2: Someone who is experimental.

Boy 3: It’s too bright a colour.

3. Where should I wear this colour? (Eg. Work, wedding, costume party, whatever.)

Boy 1: To a session with your closest friends.

Boy 2: Parties and other places. (Wow so many options. *rolling eyes*)

Boy 3: Probably never!

4. On a scale of very approachable to intimidating. Rate each colour.

Boy 1: I’d say absolutely approachable.

Boy 2: Not too intimidating, nor too timid. I think this shade strikes the perfect balance.

Boy 3: Could be approachable, but I wouldn’t be doing the approaching.

Lipstick #2: Peach nude

This shade is something that I wear when I have to put on lipstick. It is my way of assuaging myself that I did, in fact, make an effort.

Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick Cream Finish – Nude Mood (Rs 1,850) is definitely my go-to nude.

1. What colour do you think it is?

Boy 1: Nude pink (Hallelujah!)

Boy 2: More like a gloss.

Boy 3: Nude

2. What do you think about the colour? (Eg. If some woman has this colour on, what would you think about the woman)

Boy 1: Casual, someone who is chill?

Boy 2: I would say this woman looks professional.

Boy 3: This shade is quite interesting. It would draw my attention to your lips but still not in a shady way.

3. Where should I wear this colour? (Eg. Work, wedding, costume party, whatever.)

Boy 1: On a casual day/evening out with friends. Maybe movie dates?

Boy 2: At work.

Boy 3: Everyday, or when you want to go for something simple.

4. On a scale of very approachable to intimidating. Rate each colour.

Boy 1: Approachable.

Boy 2: Pretty approachable.

Boy 3: Approachable.

Lipstick #3: Pop red

I barely ever wear this colour. It gives me this sultry vibe, like when I’m putting this on I picture myself sitting in heels and sipping merlot. I feel powerful!

If you love red, you know you love M.A.C Retro Matte Lipstick – Ruby Woo (Rs 1,500)

3. Where should I wear this colour? (Eg. Work, wedding, costume party, whatever.)

Boy 1: To the office, perhaps? When you’re the super boss 🙂

Boy 1: I would be intimidated.

Boy 2: Highly intimidating.

Boy 3: I honestly would approach this woman.

Lipstick #4: Deep dark mauve

Again, another shade that I barely ever wear. But when I do, it is usually at a party or at night dos. It makes me feel like my deep dark soul is reflected on my face and now I should start writing poetry!

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick – PM412 Arabian Night (Rs 950) is what I have used here.

Boy 2: Outgoing personality.

Boy 3: Again, I would think something similar to the one wearing the orange shade.

3. Where should I wear this colour? (Eg. Work, wedding, costume party, whatever.)

Boy 1: To a party.

Boy 2: This is a casual everyday colour.

Boy 3: Probably dinner, or maybe not.

4. On a scale of very approachable to intimidating. Rate each colour.

Boy 1: Very approachable.

Boy 2: It is still intimidating.

Boy 3: I would be intimidated.

Lipstick #5: Lip balm (Trick question)

This is me every day. I am a balm junkie and you will often see me applying and re-applying it through the day. I added this question because I wanted to see if the boys would know the difference between my natural lip colour and a lipstick.

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Lip Moisturizer SPF 15 (Rs 175) is my best friend.

1. What colour do you think it is?

Boy 1: Nude pink, again?

Boy 2: Can’t figure the colour out, maybe like a light shade of brown.

Boy 3: Nude

2. What do you think about the colour? (Eg. If some woman has this colour on, what would you think about the woman)

Boy 1: Mellow kind of personality.

Boy 2: I want to say bold.

Boy 3: Someone who is off-duty probably.

3. Where should I wear this colour? (Eg. Work, wedding, costume party, whatever.)

Boy 1: On most casual, chilled out occasions. Like a house pyjama party or something.

Boy 2: Can be worn anywhere.

Boy 3: Anywhere, every day.

4. On a scale of very approachable to intimidating. Rate each colour.

Boy 1: Highly approachable.

Boy 2:  Approachable but with some hesitation.

Boy 3: Highly approachable.

This was so insightful! I started this as a fun thing to put my friends on the spot for a few laughs. But now I know, your lips talk even before you speak!
