Let’s face it — pairing the wackiest of colours together is an art best left to Ranveer Singh. He somehow pulls it off (not without earning a little bit of derision from critics) — but colours play an important role in deciding whether you’ve nailed a look or not. Especially when it comes to your eyes. And if you wear contacts, there’s so much you can do and bring your eyes out even more with the right streaks of colour on the lids. Ah — imagine a dash of pink on the lids. Now — think about how it’ll look paired with grey-coloured lenses. Pure eye-catching decadence. And that’s why I’ve roped in Bridal MUA Kajol R Paswwan and Asha Hariharan, Education Director & Celebrity Artist, Enrich Beauty, to share their insights with me on the subject. Ahead — a colourful line-up.
Experts Spill Their Well-Kept Secrets On Colour-Pairing In Beauty
Brown
Asha is of the opinion that brown softens the eyes. “It’s a colour that is natural, and can add a little dimension to the eyes. Pair it with a black eyeliner to define the brown — or wear a brown eyeliner for a hint of emphasis without creating much too much of a contrast.”
According to Kajol, brown contact-lenses call for experimentation with green or blue eyeliners as they have cool undertones. She suggests pairing brown with funky eye-looks like cut-creases and glittery liners too.
Blue
“Blue contact-lenses suit lighter skin-tones — you can go for subtle looks because the color adds a lot of statement,” Kajol explains. Asha vouches for the versatility of blue, and how you can experiment with different aesthetics by selecting different eyeliners, “Depending on the colour chosen, blue can turn into drama, party glamour, or high energy! Frame your eyes with a deep shade of blue to up your fashion quotient. Wear midnight blue for elegance. You can wear black to get the eyes of a model on a cover of a a magazine! Even purple looks simply stunning on blue.”
Grey
“A word of caution. When wearing grey lenses, avoid the light-coloured ones. Instead wear a deep shade of grey. This colour makes the eyes look mysterious and dreamlike. Pair it with a smoked black eyeliner; a deep sapphire-coloured liner; or a violet deep-blue for the perfect ice-maiden look,” says Asha. If you’re a smokey-eye person, Kajol suggests putting your skills to use. She continues, “Grey is a universal color that suits most skin-types, and you can really experiment with your eye looks — go for a poppy pink liner if you’re feeling it.”
Green
Kajol suggest going for warm-toned eyes — orange or peach suit green the best.
Asha quips, “This is such a hot colour. Absolutely unapologetic. Not a colour for the faint-hearted. You’re ready to create a storm with green eyes. Either pump up the energy with an electric blue eyeliner or soften the eyes with a teal eyeliner. Black can make this colour look elegant, and a maroon-brown will feel feminine on the eyes.”
Yup — time to jazz up the eyes.
