Won’t Do Bold Scenes For The Heck of It: Gauahar Khan On Turning Down Certain Web Series

Gauahar Khan and her stunning wedding pictures with hubby Zaid Darbar lit up our Instagram feed as we stepped into the new year. And now that we have almost got a hang of her newly-wed dulhan avatar, the actress is ready to dazzle us with her character in the new web series Tandav

Gauahar will be returning to an OTT platform after almost two years. We saw her last in The Office where she played the impressive character of Jennifer Taylor. In a recent interview, the Bigg Boss 7 winner revealed the reason for why she had been inconsistent with acting in movies and series. As it turns out, it was because the actress wasn’t comfortable with performing bold scenes on-screen.

Gauahar said in the interview, “I am clear that I won’t do such scenes for the heck of it. My job as an actor is to deliver and do justice to the character I am portraying. But yes, I do have my lines drawn, especially when it comes to the kind of content I want to associate with. I’ll not be crossing the line just for the need of wanting to be a part of the show.”

The Begum Jaan actress also revealed that in the past, she had to turn down a lot of roles because they demanded such explicit scenes that Gauahar felt she wouldn’t able to do justice to them. She said, “All those roles that came to me, I felt they weren’t something which I could deliver to with all my heart. So, I had to say no to them, irrespective of how big the project was. As an artiste, I know I am supposed to deliver to the audience with complete conviction, but then there are certain things like being explicit or too bold on screen, which I am not at all comfortable doing. Hence, I have made my choice accordingly.”

While Gauahar made her stance on performing explicit scenes clear, she also mentioned that OTT platforms have been “creating more work opportunities for creative minds.” She further added, “I believe there are ways to aesthetically show things, and that’s all I can do as an actor. There’s a lot more than just bold stuff that happens on the web and I am keen on exploring that. And I am more than ready to wait until a good role comes my way.”

Though we’d love to see Gauahar in more projects, we laud the fact that she’s prioritising her comfort over everything else. The decision to perform intimate scenes is an artist’s personal call and as an audience, we accept and appreciate their decisions as long as we get great performances!

Here’s wishing Gauahar good luck for Tandav, which is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on January 15.
