As someone who’s not very fond of PDA, I’ve made my peace with all my friends who are in a relationship. I like their mushy pictures on ‘Gram like a good friend and sometimes even drop some heart emojis in the comment box (friendships make you do such things). But what I refuse to make peace with is the overwhelming feeling I get whenever I see any of them getting hitched! I mean, relationship tak toh thik hai, but now weddings too?
If you haven’t guessed it by now, yes I’m single and officially of the age where all my friends are getting married. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a bitter person. I wish all my recently married and soon-to-be-married friends a lifetime of happiness. But NGL, every time someone announces their shaadi, my heart fills with hundreds of emotions at once. And, they range from ‘I’m so happy for her’ to ‘such a traitor!’. So, if your Instagram feed is flooding with your friends’ wedding pics, then here are some feelings that you will relate to perfectly.
9 Feelings You Get When Your Friends Are Getting Married
It doesn’t matter whether you are single or not, because if you are the only unmarried friend in your group, you will relate to these feelings pretty well.
Congratulations, Celebrations, & Synonyms
Friend 1: Hey, I’m getting married!
Me: Wow, congrats!
Friend 2: I’m also getting married!
Me: Wow, Congrats!
Friend 3: Same here!
Me: Wow, *I-don’t-know-what-else-to-say-so* congrats!
Seriously, while all our friends are busy getting married, we are busy looking for new ways to congratulate them. Needless to say, we gradually get tired of all the same-old ‘save-the-date’ e-cards and stick to the customary response–“Wow, congrats!”
Genuinely Happy For Them!
We certainly feel super excited when we hear that some of our closest friends are getting married. In fact, we desperately wait for their weddings so that we can go extra with our lehengas and glamm makeup.
BTW, if your BFF is getting married soon and you are looking for some fab makeup products, then add these to your cart STAT!
Et tu, Brute?
However, along with that insane joy comes a pang of betrayal. Especially when your bestie announces her wedding suddenly. I mean, weren’t you guys supposed to be each other’s wing women forever? Well now, the Monica to your Rachel has found her Chandler while you’re busy finding your lobster. We know it’s a bittersweet feeling ladies, but it too shall pass!
Apna Time Kab Aayega?!
You must be aware of the midlife crisis that you experience when you’re in your early 40s and don’t find anything exciting anymore. But now, let us introduce you to ‘quarter-life crisis’. It’s a sinking feeling that comes at a stage when all you can see around you are weddings. Because while you may be attending several shaadis one after the other, you have absolutely no clue when your day will come. The feeling is best described by Katherine Heigl’s character in 27 Dresses.
But hey, the day will come when it’s meant to, so stop rushing!
Shaadi? Nah Thanks, I’m Good!
There are two types of people in the world–one who cannot wait to get married and the other, who cannot think of getting married.
If you fall in the latter category, you probably secretly dread the idea of marriage and have taken an oath to protect your bachelorette life at all costs. NGL, the feeling of all your friends participating in an arbitrary wedding marathon is scary AF! Deep down, you guys are simply thankful that this dangerous shaadi phenomenon is not contagious.
Where’s The Bachelorette Party Tonight?
When life gives you a lemon, you add it to a cocktail and say ‘cheers’. And when your friends are getting married, you stop thinking about its pros and cons and focus on the bachelorette party instead! As #TeamBride and a perfect bridesmaid, it is your moral responsibility to throw the most lavish bachelorette party ever and enjoy it to the fullest!
The Maturity Gap Is Real
There might have been a time when you and your friend thought that drinking at 11 AM was a good decision. But those days are gone and now, your soon-to-be-married or newlywed friend is only concerned about the healthy breakfast they are going to have at 9 AM. Believe it or not, but your friends are all grown ups now and their priorities have changed. After all, marriage is indeed a HUGE responsibility. You might feel the difference when you talk to them but remember, change is the only constant in life.
The ‘I, Me, & Myself’ Weekend
Remember when you used to go out with your friends and have a gala time together? Yeah well… sorry to break it to you but those days are gone. Now, your weekends are all about Netflix and chill. In fact, you’d be lucky if you have any company at all on the weekends because most of your married friends have plans with their spouse.
Where’s Thy Suitable Boy
…And, that loneliness leads to the big question–are you ready to “settle down” with a partner officially?
Admit it, the thought of popping the question to your beau while watching all your friends tie the knot definitely strikes your mind. And if you’re single (like me), then chances are that your family and friends are already looking for a partner for you.
TBH, you might go through a bizarre range of feelings when you see so many of your friends getting married. But remember that your decisions should always be an individual call and not a repercussion of someone else’s actions.
So ladies, how many of these did you find relatable?
