We were all waiting for the moment to see Alia Bhatt as Gangubai in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, and as anticipated as it was, the look did not disappoint us. Alia Bhatt just made her fans’ Wednesday morning worth it as she just dropped her first look pictures as ‘mafia queen’ Gangubai Kathiawadi, and we are so intrigued.
The 26-year-old actress shared two posters of the film which portrayed two different looks of Alia. The two photos show Alia’s transition from a young girl to a brothel owner. One of the posters shows Alia in a long shot as she wears a blouse and a skirt. She also sported a mole on her cheek and neatly parted hair braided with ribbons.
Another one is a monochrome close-up of her face with a big red bindi on her forehead, giving a noticeably mature look to Alia. Well, in this poster, Alia’s eyes are doing all the talking and the bindi clearly looks like a symbol of her rise in Mumbai.
Isn’t she piercing your soul with this never-seen-before avatar? Well, we loved it and so did her fans. Alia’s fans started bombarding her Instagram feed with praises as soon as she posted the pictures.
On Tuesday, Alia had given us a sneak peek into her upcoming biopic ahead of the release of the first look. In the short video that she shared, one can see a red dot along with the title of the film.
For the unversed, the film is on the life of Mumbai’s mafia queen Gangubai Kathiawadi, who was actually a sex worker and eventually became an underworld don. Alia will play the role of Gangubai, who was one of the most respected and powerful madams of Kamathipura brothel during the 1960s. After being forced into prostitution, Gangubai became too influential in the city eventually. It is based on a chapter of Husain Zaidi’s novel ‘Mafia Queens Of Mumbai’.
Ajay Devgn features as a gangster in the movie, who falls in love with Gangubai and teaches her the tricks of the trade. Gangubai Kathiawadi was announced in October 2019, two months after Bhansali’s film Inshallah starring Alia and Salman Khan was shelved, and therefore this is Alia’s first film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Gangubai Kathiwadi will hit the theatres on September 11, 2020, and we CAN’T wait.
