For the longest time, Air India has been associated with their legendary all-red saree as their uniforms. However, like all things, change is imperative after a point, and possibly with that thought, the airline has unveiled their brand-new uniforms, designed by ace fashion designer, Manish Malhotra.

The female cabin crew uniform includes a modern ombre saree adorned with intricate patterns inspired by our heritage architecture (jharokha) and a comfortable blouse and blazer for added convenience.

For the cockpit crew, the uniform highlights a classic black double-breasted suit with bandhgalas.

The designer has also created footwear for the airline. While the women cabin crew will have dual-tone block heels in black and burgundy, the male cabin crew will wear black brogues.

The uniform designs came with a collaborative effort with input from cabin crew representatives and the airline’s in-flight services team. The airlines also executed thorough testing to ensure the practicality of the new attires.

Interestingly, this is the first time the airline has changed its uniforms in the last six decades since it was founded in 1932.
