The red carpet at any award function is nothing short of a fashion runway. Putting on your best fashion game has become far more significant than winning an award. The IIFA awards were recently held in Abu Dhabi, and the biggest celebrities in Bollywood flew in to attend it. We saw a lot of experimental outfits, but not all of them were successful in making a statement.
Day one of the award function saw many Bollywood divas making a head-turning statement, but some almost missed the mark by an inch. And day two was no different either.
Let’s take a look at all the fashion hits and misses at the 2023 IIFA Awards:
Hits
Kriti Sanon
Kriti Sanon startled us by wearing an ensemble quite similar to what Anushka Sharma wore the same night at the Cannes Film Festival. However, both the ladies slayed! Kriti’s black and white gown was embellished with floral design and pearls. Exaggerated sleeves are a hot trend these days, and Kriti looked stunning in the OTT black off-shoulder look.
Esha Gupta
After her Cannes appearance, we are convinced that Esha Gupta is a fashionista who hasn’t gotten enough credit. The actress wore a bold grey dress that was doused in glitter. The outfit featured a plunging neckline and strappy sleeves. Although it may have been a touch too daring for some, Esha pulled it off with class.
For day two, Esha wore a black gown that featured a floor-sweeping train with hints of gold embellishment. The thigh-high split and cut-out detailing on the side running all the way to her back, added much-needed drama to her look. She further elevated her outfit with a pair of statement diamond earrings and soft curls.
Aahana Kumra
When in doubt, choose black. Aahana Kumra looked gorgeous in a sequined black strapless gown that featured a deep V-neckline. The stunning attire came with a sexy side slit that added extra oomph!
Sharvari Wagh
Sharvari Wagh is a true fashionista who knows exactly how to carry herself. The actress looked like a dream in a floral satin-silk gown that featured a strapless, sweetheart neckline. The mermaid silhouette and short train added drama to the look. We love how Sharvari chose to go low-key with her accessories ‘coz this outfit deserved the centre stage!
While she channeled her inner Barbie on day one but decided to take a more risque route on day two. And oh boy, did she serve! The Bunty Aur Babli 2 actress wore a black figure-hugging gown by Surya Sarkar. Her ensemble featured cut-out detailing on the torso, back, and side. Further, the thigh-high slit added an extra dose of oomph to her look. She kept it minimal in the accessory department and added stacks of gold-plated rings to complete her look.
Radhika Madan
Radhika Madan has been quite experimental with her looks recently and we are loving her fashion awakening! The actress wore a one-shoulder mini white corset dress that featured a sexy, sheer bodice and one dramatic, puffy sleeve. Her diamond choker, ear cuffs and pointed-toe white heels were like icing on the cake.
Mouni Roy
Mouni Roy channeled her inner snow-white in a stunning pristine white gown. It featured 3-D floral embellishment and OTT ruffle sleeves. Further, the gown featured a sheer skirt with a long trail at the back. And to let the gown do all the talking, Mouni went sans accessory and tied her hair in a bun. Her not-so-dramatic makeup was like icing on the cake.
Rashi Khanna
After making a mark in the Tollywood industry, Rashi is making her presence felt in Bollywood too. Her fashion game is no different either and her recent appearance at the IIFA award confirms that. Rashi dazzled the red carpet in a sequin body-hugging gown. The cutout detailing on the bust as well as on the waist, along with the thigh-high slit is adding an extra dose of sexiness. To complete her look, Rashi added a pair of statement earrings and a stack of diamond rings.
Jacqueline Fernandez
Hooded gowns are in the rage right now among the fashion community. Even Jacqueline decided to take it on a spin at the IIFA awards. And safe to say, she nailed it. The actress wore a white gown featuring gold embellished work all over. Further, to give it a dreamy vibe, it featured a flowy fabric draped in a way to give a mermaid tail and a hood. She completed her look with matching gold earrings. 10/10 from us!
Misses
Nushrratt Bharuccha
Nushrratt Bharuccha attempted, but failed, to experiment with a whimsical aesthetic. She was dressed in a short white dress with spiky, hooded sleeves that made no sense. The outfit also appeared to be badly constructed, with sloppy work. At the very least, her transparent heels earned some points.
While we are in love with all thing-pink, Nushrratt’s gown was not it. Also, sequins were a hot thing a while back but it’s time that our desi divas put it to rest. Further, those elaborate ruffle sleeves are definitely not working in Nushrratt’s favour. However, the only saving grace was her glamm makeup.
Nora Fatehi
There was a time when latex dresses were a hot thing but now that time has passed. Nora Fatehi walked the red carpet in a ruched, body hugging, red latex gown. Although her curves looked fab, the dress was simply outdated. TBH, we expected a bit more from Nora.
Nora Fatehi is a style icon. However, her IIFA looks sure left us disappointed. Though the strapless dress fitted her like a glove, it was nothing out of the ordinary. And those OTT sleeves are passe now. Nora could have done better for sure.
Urvashi Rautela
Urvashi Rautela badly needs to give feathers a rain check. The diva who gave us some stunning and controversial Cannes looks continued to make headlines with her eccentric outfit at the IIFA awards. She donned a feathered blouse with diamond-encrusted sleeves, which she teamed with a satin skirt. Sans the feathers, this outfit would have been a smash.
On day two, Urvashi wore a plain body-hugging velvet gown. To take it up a notch, she layered over a sheer cape with OTT feature detailing and crystal embellishment on the neck. Sorry Urvashi, this one is definitely not working for us.
Rakul Preet Singh
Rakul Preet Singh’s IIFA attire was a significant letdown given her former stylish looks. The actress donned a one-shoulder, straight-fit white gown that was far too plain for a red carpet affair. Although minimalism is a hot trend, and sometimes simplicity emanates elegance, this outfit was just not it. Rakul’s danglers, on the other hand, were the saving factor.
It seems like our Bollywood divas took over the city of Abu Dhabi! Which look was your favourite?
