On August 23, 6:04 pm, India made a breakthrough when the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) mission Chandrayaan-3 accomplished a successful landing on the moon. The whole country celebrated this historic win and congratulated the talented team of scientists at ISRO. It’s a special win for each one of us because India became the first country to do a ‘soft landing’ on the moon’s south pole. This also comes days after Russia’s Luna 25, which was their first moon mission in 47 years, failed to land on the lunar south pole.

1. Study The Soil
The lander, Vikarm, successfully rolled out the Pragyan rover, 3-4 hours after the landing. Now, for the next 14 days, which is equivalent to one lunar day, the rover will analyse the chemical compositions and mineralogical composition for the understanding of the lunar surface. It will also determine the composition of the lunar soil and rocks around the landing area.
2. Find Water
Interestingly, India found frozen water deposits on the lunar pools for the first time in 2009 through the data was collected via Chandrayaan 1. It was also India’s first moon mission. Reportedly, the water ice could be used to supply fuel, provide oxygen, and work as drinking water.
3. Click Pictures & Leave An Imprint
As soon as the Pragyan rover rolled out, it took a walk on the moon. Reportedly, Vikram lander and Pragyan Rover would have clicked each other’s picture to mark the success. Furthermore, as the rover walks, it’ll imprint our national emblem and ISRO’s logo along with the Indian flag on the lunar soil. How fascinating!
