After Years Of Silence, Farhan Akhtar Finally Opens Up About His Divorce With Adhuna

All of us were left quite shocked when Farhan Akhtar and Adhuna Bhabani decided to end their 16-yer long marriage about two years ago. The ex-couple never spoke openly about the reason behind them parting ways. However, after maintaining years of dignified silence, Farhan Akhtar has finally opened up about his divorce and what followed.

Recently, Farhan spoke about how he broke the news of his divorce with ex-wife Adhuna to his daughters, Shakya and Akira. He told a media website during an interaction that is wasn’t easy but you have to be honest with your children. He said, “Nothing is easy. Anything you tell your child which you think your child doesn’t want to hear is never going to be easy. The thing that your child expects you and by you doing it, you will realise that this is what you expect from them. If you can be honest with your child, they are not dumb or stupid.”

“Your children understand way more than you and I can imagine. They have a sense of an energy of how their parents are feeling. As long as you don’t lie to them and you feel ‘it’s okay, I have told them, they can now do whatever’, things will come around. Eventually, a child will understand why you have done what you have done. Maybe not at the moment, but you just have to be honest with them and in turn, they will be honest with you,” Farhan added.

Adhuna and Farhan tied the knot in 2000 and decided to end their marriage in 2016. Both of them released a joint statement which read, “This is to announce that we, Adhuna and Farhan, have mutually and amicably decided to separate. Our children remain our priority and it is immensely important to us, as responsible parents, that they be protected from unwarranted speculation and public glare. We sincerely request that we are given the privacy that is required at this time to move forward in a dignified manner.” 

As part of the settlement, Adhuna asked to keep the couple’s Mumbai residence ‘Vipassna’ (a sprawling 10,000 sq. ft. bungalow in Bandstand) for herself. Reportedly, Farhan also contributes a major amount in the security and upbringing of their two daughters.

While the couple maintained that the split was a result of ‘growing apart over the years’, there was some unsubstantiated buzz that Farhan called it quits because of his affair with Wazir co-star Aditi Rao Hydari. However, both Farhan and Aditi refuted the rumours.

Both Adhuna and Farhan have moved on in their lives. While the Bhaag Milkha Bhaag actor is dating Shibani Dandekar, Adhuna is rumoured to be dating Dino Morea’s brother Nicolo.
