The number of confirmed #Coronavirus cases has been on the rise and there is a lot of panic across the globe. While the Coronavirus pandemic has affected the global economies and tourism worldwide, the wedding industry too has faced major losses. Many couples and families have had to cancel their celebrations at the last-minute. With people hesitating to travel and being a part of large gatherings, is it even possible to plan a wedding?
Well, even though this is a difficult decision and totally yours to make, we would recommend you postpone the date. But in case you’ve decided to go ahead with the ceremonies, here are some expert tips that will help you stay safe.
The Wedding Filmer
One of the best wedding videographers in India, The Wedding Filmer shared their inputs on getting married during the Coronavirus outbreak.
- Keep your guest list minimal. Not only will you save a lot of money but you will be surrounded by just your closest people.
- Self-isolate yourself if you think there is a possibility of infection, and do something productive. For instance, they recently shot an Indian-South Korean wedding and the groom’s father was flying from Seoul, one of the places affected by Coronavirus. In order to be able to attend his son’s wedding, the father of the groom isolated himself for 24 days as a precaution. To make it productive, he learned to dance on Bollywood songs and was a pro by the wedding day!
- Maintain a three-feet distance from each other and replace hi-fives with air-fives.
- Do NOT share glasses and spoons with other people.
- Do NOT attend a wedding if you’re unwell. Self isolate yourself and get a friend to FaceTime the wedding to you.
- Do NOT let yourselves get sleep deprived. Lack of sleep combined with alcohol can make your immune system weak.
Pink Palki
Bangkok-based event planners, the team at Pink Palki too felt that you should either postpone the wedding or scale down the number of guests. They even suggested streaming the wedding live so that the overseas guests do not miss out on all the shaadi fun.
Jasmeet Kapany
One of the most famous Delhi-based hair and makeup artist, Jasmeet Kapany shared some very important tips from her personal experience.
- She asks her brides to keep sipping warm water while she does their makeup.
- She sanitises all her makeup, including dry products, between every application even if it’s for the same person. Since so many people come into the bride’s room, the makeup kit needs to be sanitised after every application, even if it’s for the same person.

- Warm weather is likely to decrease the spread of Coronavirus. Keep that in mind as venue options for destination weddings. Also, avoid closed areas and plan your ceremonies outdoors.

Here are some additional precautions that you should take to make sure that you do not catch the infection.
- Stay home when you’re sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze, either with the crook of your elbow or with a tissue. If you’re using a tissue, make sure that you dispose of the tissue safely.
- Clean frequently-touched objects using a disinfectant.
- Wear a mask only if you’re infected to prevent the spread of the virus.
- If you have a fever, cough or difficulty in breathing, call your doctor instead of going to the hospital directly. You might be suffering from the usual viral infection. Going to the hospital will increase your chances to catch the infection.
- Keep in mind the travel advisory by the government and avoid any non-essential travels.
