They say marriages are made in heaven and while it is 100% true, they are definitely maintained here on earth! Finding a life partner is where the journey only begins. After that, you’ve got to learn to navigate life together and support each other during tough times. Today, we look at some everyday things that make your marriage stronger and life so much more beautiful.
1. Don’t be stingy with your affection
You don’t need to save the hugs and kisses for special occasions. Let them flow freely as you romance each other and life.
2. Make time to discuss the small stuff
Sometimes as busy, working people, we rarely make time to talk to our partners about the small niggles of everyday life. But these little things have a tendency of piling up which can lead to frustration. Avoid.
3. Celebrate EVERYTHING!
What’s the point of having a life partner if you don’t view him as the ultimate person to party with? Did you get a promotion? Is it his birthday? Is it any sort of an anniversary? Don’t feel shy to make it a big deal and put in an effort.
4. Don’t keep secrets
Marriage is no place to have closets with skeletons! Don’t keep secrets from each other, even if they seem small and insignificant. You never know when they start to weigh heavy on your relationship.
5. Have cute little rituals
Pamper each other, everyday! Leave little post-it notes for each other around the house. Play his favourite song when he walks into the house. Have him make you his special chai when you’re feeling down. Enjoy these little rituals to the fullest.
6. Spend time with other couples
And what does this have to do with your marriage? Well here’s what! Spending time with other couples makes you acutely aware of your own relationship. It’ll make you appreciate each other more or perhaps inspire you to connect like other couples do. Either way, we guarantee it’ll help.
7. Make time for sex
It’s such a myth that sex loses its luster after marriage. Yes, it is true that once you grow older, your list of responsibility manifolds and you hardly find time to be intimate. But that’s why we use the words ‘make time’. Sex is an important part of a marriage and shouldn’t be taken for granted. Enjoy it, pursue it, and make all that pleasure seeking a habit!
8. Don’t forget to be silly
Laugh together because it is the most helpful tip that keeps your relationship strong and successful. Call each other silly nicknames, play games, bicker even. It always helps.
9. Make ‘catching up’ a part of your routine
No matter how busy life gets, make it a point to catch up with each other. Maybe before bedtime or early in the morning – just spend some time talking. Share your hopes and dreams. Talk about your disappointments. Life will pass you by if you make time for everything except reconnecting with your life partner.
10. Put in effort
Nothing works unless you put in some effort. Make marriage your priority. Don’t forget to work on your own upkeep. Look attractive for each other. Your own self-confidence goes a long way in being a good partner to him.
11. Share hobbies and interests
While we are all for individualism, it’s also nice to do things together in life. Enjoy art? Take a painting class together or visit a museum. You could even just buy some paints and brushes and put that Sunday morning to some good use.
12. Cuddle
Cuddle often and cuddle lots. Cuddle for no reason. Period.
13. Be vulnerable
Your life partner is that one person you should never keep any pretences with. Cry, whine, whimper, curl up on the floor and scream. Be vulnerable often and encourage your partner to do the same.
14. Indulge in some good old PDA
Being in love will NEVER go out of style. So whether it’s making an entrance arm in arm at a party or just some solid social media cuteness, don’t shy away from PDA.
