Like most women today, I have a series of shows that fall under the guilty pleasure category. Most of them feature a formidable, girlish protagonist with embellished outfits and a desire to ‘be something extraordinary’ in this mundane world. The main reason they qualify as a guilty pleasure is because of the emphasis of the show on the presence of men (most of these scenes don’t pass the Bechdel Test) but also, where else am I going to get my makeup inspiration from?
One of these shows is Emily In Paris, and with its newest season in production, I’m fighting the urge to go back and re-watch every season. If not for Alfie, then probably for the subtle makeup looks that seem to work anywhere – from Paris to Mumbai. After a little digging and some (a lot) more bingeing, we found the exact lip shades Aurélie Payen (the series’ makeup artist) used for Lilly Collins’ character. Here’s the hot chocolate and croissant.
Emily’s Parisian Lipstick Lineup
For Sunlit Strolls & Casual Work Days
Emily opts for a spectrum of pinks. Starting with the subtle elegance of MAC Whirl, a matte dusty rose that encapsulates her fresh beginnings in Paris.
For those looking to mirror this look without the price tag, Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in Mad About Mauve offers a similar velvety finish, enriched with the hydrating benefits of vitamin E and avocado oil, ensuring a plush and full pout.
For Evenings Out
As the day progresses, so does the intensity of Emily’s choices, moving towards the deeper and more assertive shades of Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk paired with MAC’s Velvet Teddy.
For a savvy swap, Kay Beauty Matte Drama Long Stay Lipstick – Muse and Typsy Beauty’s Caramel Kiss present a compelling dupe, capturing the essence of Emily’s workday resilience and charm.
For The Opera
When night falls over Paris, Emily’s lips tell tales of boldness with the classic red of Sephora Collection’s Lip Stain in Always Red.
A perfect dupe for this show-stopping red is The Face Shop’s Water Fit Lip Tint in Red Signal, which not only dresses your lips in a vivid hue but also ensures they remain moisturised and radiant throughout the evening’s escapades.
For A Date Night
For those intimate moments and date nights, Emily’s secret weapon is Charlotte Tilbury in Bond Girl, a shade that now lives under the moniker M.I.KISS.
Maybelline New York Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick – 660 Touch Of Spice emerges as a versatile dupe, bringing the vibrant colour of the lipstick, perfect for a subtle yet impactful statement.
In essence, Emily in Paris is a style guide, a reminder of the transformative power of makeup. No matter how hideous the outfit, or how irritating the protagonist, with the right lipstick, everything can be elevated to look luxurious.
