There’s a pattern to big fat Indian weddings that’s been constant since the dawn of time. For instance, all rishtedaars are virtually the same people. Or, at least one uncle is a little too high for his own good. Or, the bride and groom are dead tired of getting 100 shots clicked in the same pose with different people. That’s the thing, all grand desi weddings are largely similar.
The central attraction after food, however, is music. You see, there are some songs and moments associated with them, which are like recurring stock characters of every shaadi. Don’t believe me? Well, here are 7 songs that are crucial to every desi wedding –
1. ‘Din Shagna Ka’ at the bridal entry
Yes, I know new bridal entry songs have emerged. There’s an entire playlist, for that matter. But this one attained the status of a classic as soon as it was released. It’s all shades of wholesome.
2. ‘Rail Gaddi’ when literally every important relative has hit the dance floor
‘Rail Gaddi’ is a constant in this ever-changing world. DJ plays this song when every close rishtedaar has made it to the dance floor. And, as soon as it goes off, they form to make a line and do what looks like a recce of the entire venue.
3. ‘Ishq Tera Tadpaave’ when the DJ really wants you to dance the night away
Whenever the DJ senses that people aren’t dancing with the required intensity, they play this song and the problem is solved.
4. ‘Ae Mere Zohra Jabeen’ for that beloved older couple in the room
And the crowds gather to celebrate the adorable duo.
5. ‘Nagin Dance’ for that drunk uncle to do the hook step
Remember the uncle all-pervasive drunk uncle? This song is for when he actually gets high and hits the dance floor.
6. Lots of random ‘dhol’ because why not –
From baraat to mehendi nights, there’s a whole lot of dhol in desi weddings. It’s that glue which brings everyone together. It’s what actually gets everybody to dance.
If food is on the top, music is not far behind on the list of best things about weddings. Even if you’re not the one actually dancing, it’s just too entertaining to see how different people react to different songs in weddings.
