Dress-On-Dress To Impress: A Styling Hack You Should Totally Instagram Before The Bloggers Do!
Do you feel like everytime a new styling hack comes around, you’re too tired to try it out thanks to the widespread posting by bloggers everywhere? We know the feeling. Well, it’s time for you to outpost them. Here’s a trend that’s brand new and seldom double-tapped: dress-on-dress layering. A cool new way of refreshing your look, it requires ZERO additional spending. Just reach for all the summer-worthy dresses you already own! Did we just hear your wallet go ‘hell yeah’?
Of course, we were more than happy to give it a go. So, the POPxo team tried the dress-on-dress hack… and we’re happy to report it was an undeniably smashing success! Not only does the layering hack sort you out for those glamorous nights out, it will give you ideas to look your best at work too. After all, no one wants to wear the same old tee-jeans outfit to the office due to the lack of energy and, TBH, fu**s. From mixing prints to colour-blocking, layering with your dresses just got easier. Here are a few looks real girls, just like you, curated to help you out with your first few attempts. Keep up with the Instagram references, y’hear?
1. Let It Slip
Layering with dresses in the summer can be… well, a rather sweaty ordeal. However, Senior Fashion Writer, Arunima Rustagi i.e. I, worked around it. Layering a thin, mint green camisole slip-dress over a longer striped shirt dress here, not only did I beat the heat. I also added a ‘bath-leisure’ touch to my dress-on-dress look. Tres chic, no? P.S. This look is double-tap worthy on the ‘gram.
2. Print Stint
For Editorial Coordinator, Saachi Bamba, putting this dress-on-dress ensemble together was a piece of cake! Belting her printed shirt-dress as a kimono over a solid coloured bodycon, Saachi added more character to the look, as well as a feminine silhouette with the cinched waist. We love how this hack works with fusion looks too!
3. Maxi-mum Impact
All those beachy maxi dresses you have in the back of that closet, pull them out. Akanksha Bhatia, Lifestyle Writer, shows us how to do dress-on-dress layers in the quirkiest of ways. With a spaghetti-strap maxi dress under a shorter t-shirt dress, Akanksha created a unique vibe with the pairing. P.S. Notice how she pulled one-shoulder of her t-shirt dress down to give you a peek at the maxi dress strap.
4. Don’t Mesh With Me
When it comes to trying the dress-on-dress styling hack, it’s good to play with textures and prints. Sayunkta Jain, Senior Fashion Writer, keeps it fresh and edgy at the same time with this casual-chic outfit. Dark florals with black mesh – we’re obsessed with this feminine-goth look! Also, it’s super comfy, summer-friendly and perfect for your Instagram feed. Hallelujah!
5. Under The Wraps
Want to try the dress-on-dress layering hack at work? Don’t you worry! Social Media Coordinator, Rhea Guliani, brings out the big guns with this sophisticated ensemble that is also super easy to pull off. Rhea started off with an off-shoulder bodycon dress, which she layered with a sleeveless, mustard coloured wrap-dress. Works with any sleeveless wrap dress which is shorter than your bodycon. Snap it and post it before those bloggers, you!
6. Mono-tone Mystery
Arushi Sakhuja’s outfit here is a lesson in dress-on-dress layering. When in doubt, pick monotone dresses to pair up. Again, play with print and texture to give your look more character. For example, here, Arushi paired up a lavender shift dress with a navy-lavender floral print buttoned dress over it. Also, a shot like this can’t not go up on Instagram, right?
7. Sheer Brilliance
Surabhi Pandey, Social Media Coordinator, doesn’t kid around when it comes to styling hacks. She loves to play with bold colours and sheer fabrics. Hence, the hot pink sheer dress she layered over a black sleeveless bodycon. While Surabhi chose to go bold and playful, you can also colour-coordinate the two dresses and opt for a more sophisticated Kim K vibe.
So, put on a dress (or two) and show them bloggers what it’s all about!
