Home Grown: Indian Dermatologist Launched Her Own Skincare Line And We’re In Love!

Dr Rekha Sheth is one of India’s first cosmetic dermatologists and she launched her own line of skincare products formulated ESPECIALLY for Indian skin. Most luxury brands do not specifically cater to issues we deal with on a cellular level. Indian skin produces more melanin due to the harsh environment we live in: dust, pollution and UV damage take a toll on our skin. Dr Sheth’s products contain higher quantities of actives which are created for Indian skin. The ingredients list read like miracles in a bottle… Vitamin C, Vitamin A, kojic acid, dimethicone, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide… you get the drift right?

Any skincare junkie can tell you that these aren’t ingredients that are easy to find on the Indian market, and they aren’t exactly cheap either. Dr. Sheth’s products are created using all the essential vitamins and acids your skin needs. The Basic Brightening Collection is a set of basic products that focus on brightening and evening out your skintone leaving you with a noticeable glow. The products range from Rs 375 to Rs 2,250, making them accessible, affordable and absolutely essential in our top drawers.

We took this opportunity to jump in and get our hands on some of the products and if you’re wondering which ones were our favourites, keep reading!

But first, here’s a quick breakdown of some of our most loved skincare ingredients.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is amazing for brightening and evening out your skintone. It lightens pigmentation and fades acne scars and helps your skin to look smoother, brighter and wrinkle-free. The Dr Sheth’s Basic Brightening Youth Glotion (Rs 1,699) is one of my favourite products. It’s what sunshine in a bottle feels like, especially for all you dry skin beauties. It boasts of Vitamin C and Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) that helps combat inflammation, acne, pigmentation, tanning and ageing—these ensure an even skintone.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is basically retinol, in skincare lingo – retinol is the holy grail of anti-ageing ingredients. It promotes cell regeneration, eases wrinkles and fine lines making it an essential ingredient in any anti-ageing product. The Ultimate Brightening Youth Enhancer (Rs 2,250) packs a punch with over 15 active ingredients. It helps with brightening, pigmentation, scarring, hydration and repairing your skin while you snooze. It’s your go-to night cream.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is one of those products that helps your skin with hydration and moisture retention. It acts as a magnet for moisture and keeps your skin plump, firm and smooth. The Pollution Protecting On The Go Cleansing Spray (Rs 549) is perfect for cleansing and hydrating your skin while you’re out running errands or at work all day. Just spritz some on and wipe it off, no need to rinse.

Kojic Acid

Kojic acid is derived from fungi and organic substances and works on lightening and brightening pigmentation on the skin. It also helps people with sun damage, age spots and scars.

We’ve been told that there is a whole line targeted at urban Indians that are being launched as we speak. You know us working peeps exposed to pollution, harsh AC environments and all.

So what do you think of this homegrown brand? We’re mighty impressed!
