What Happened With Dostana 2? All That We Know About Kartik Aaryan-Karan Johar Fallout
In the biggest B-Town controversy this year, Kartik Aaryan was replaced by Dharma Productions’ Dostana 2, mid-shoot. A little birdie tells us that almost 60 percent of the film had been shot when the decision was taken. “Due to professional circumstances, on which we have decided to maintain a dignified silence–we will be recasting ‘Dostana 2’, directed by Collin D’Cunha. Please wait for the official announcement soon,” read the official statement shared by the production house.
Shortly after the announcement, Karan unfollowed the actor on social media thus adding fuel to the fire. Since then a lot of speculations have been made about the said fallout. In fact, grapevine suggests that so bad has been the entire thing that Dharma Productions and every other film business related to Karan Johar have vowed to never work with Kartik now.
Well, amid all the speculations and confusion one cannot help but wonder what actually might have transpired. Was it Kartik because of whom the entire dispute happened? Was it Karan? Or was it someone else? Well, we just dug in for all the scoop and here is what we have got for you all:
Karan Johar vs. Kartik Aaryan
A week after the fallout, rumours started doing rounds that it was Kartik’s greed and never-ending tantrums that led to it. It was being said that when Kartik agreed to do Dostana 2 in 2019, he was signed up for a minimal amount of Rs. 2-3 crores. However, his current market value is more than Rs. 10 crores. Thus, Kartik decided to negotiate the contract with Karan. While the filmmaker found it to be highly unprofessional, he did agree to compensate by promising yet another film to Kartik–Mr. Lele. Kartik readily agreed. However, he was suddenly replaced by Vicky Kaushal in the film. Meanwhile, another Dharma Production film was being ideated and Kartik wasn’t approached for that as well.
However, he was later offered a cricket-based story by Karan which was being directed by Gunjan Saxena fame director Sharan Sharma. To avoid being dropped out of this film as well, Kartik asked Karan to sign a contract with him. All this while, he kept making excuses for Dostana 2 and thus kept pushing the shoot. However, the instant he heard that Karan was starting Mr. Lele‘s shoot with Janhvi Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in April, he immediately reached out and said that he was available for Dostana 2. However, there was a condition involved–he could only start the shoot in April. It did not take Karan to realise what was going on. Miffed with all the arm twisting, he thus took the call of recasting for Dostana 2.
Kartik Aaryan vs. Janhvi Kapoor
A little birdie recently informed us about a fresh development in the case. According to the latest theory, Kartik never had any problems with Karan Johar. Apparently, it was ‘coz of an ugly fallout with Janhvi Kapoor that Kartik lost all interest in the film and started making excuses for not shooting. The story suggests that Kartik and Janhvi’s friendship fell apart in January and it got really bad really soon.
It was after all this that Kartik became difficult and started pushing the shoot. It’s being said that the actor was so upset with Janhvi Kapoor that one day he legit went to director Collin D’Cunha and suggested dropping the film altogether and start something new instead.
Meanwhile, Kartik apparently also made the suggestion of dropping Janhvi from the film. In fact, he was ready to adjust the film’s fee in case Karan agreed to make some other movie with him. By then Karan was absolutely done with all the delays and the drama and had decided to oust Kartik from the project.
Interestingly, this story kinda checks out given that while Karan has unfollowed Kartik, the actor continues to follow him on Instagram. However, both of them are yet to make an official comment on the controversy and all we can do is speculate in the meantime. Well, we kinda feel like there is a little more weight to the entire Kartik-Janhvi story. What do you think?
