Yellow yellow, dirty fellow! We all have a love-hate relationship with this colour, right? Unless it’s on my eyes as a stunning eyeshadow as a constant reminder of summer or on my cheekbones (yes, yellow blush is a thing), I do not want yellow on my face, specifically on my teeth.
Yellow teeth can be a turn-off for many people. What most of us do not realise is that our day to day routines such as drinking chai, coffee, wine and even smoking starts turning our pearly whites yellow. Drinking our fave beverages gets into the enamel of the teeth, causing longterm discolouration. Smoking also causes your teeth to lose their pearly shine and smoking stains are the most stubborn ones to get rid of. But do not worry as you can always reverse the damage with a teeth whitening toothpaste. And since we should #StayHomeAndStaySafe, here’s how you can make one at home!
Time To Make A DIY Teeth Whitening Toothpaste
With just a few ingredients and easy steps, you can make wonderful teeth whitening toothpaste at home!
You will need:
- 1 Tablespoon Baking Soda
- 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil
- A pinch of charcoal powder (optional)
- 2-3 drops Peppermint Essential Oil for the cooling sensation (optional)
- A bowl for mixing
- A spoon
- A Small Container
Step 1: In a mixing bowl, add one tbsp of coconut oil in its natural form (do not heat it up).
Step 2: Next, add one tbsp of baking soda and mix thoroughly.
Step 3: Once the *paste* texture is formed, add a few drops of peppermint essential oil. Make sure this is food-grade essential oil though, as many brands make diffuser-specific formulas that are not safe for the skin. The peppermint will give you the perfect minty flavour of toothpaste. If you have charcoal powder, add a pinch of it into the mix.
Step 4: Pour out your paste in a tiny storage container and your mixture is ready to be used.
Wondering how often to use? Use this to brush your teeth thrice a week for a month for it to work nicely. When you see the results you want, start using it once a week as a maintenance treatment. You’ll see your teeth regaining their original colour slowly but steadily.
PS: “Where’s the camera? I’m so ready for my closeup!”
