Try growing your nails first, and shape them into almonds. The aesthetic translates well when there’s a clear-cut demarcation between the tips and the nail bed. You need just two things to DIY this aesthetic. Ahead — a step-by-step breakdown.
- Pick a highly-pigmented colour — like a red or a pink — and grab a bottle of all-clear polish.
- Uncap both the nail polishes and position the coloured one’s brush over the top of the clear polish bottle until a drop or two of the colour falls into the bottle.
- Shake the bottle, and notice how the colour diffuses throughout the polish — translucent and jelly-like.
- Paint your lacquers to test-run the newly formed nail polish, and if you feel like it needs more pigment, you can add another coat — or more colour to the bottle.
- Ensure you’re adding the colour in increments instead of dropping four or five drops into the bottle in one go. If you do that, you’ll end up losing the jelly-like aesthetic.
- You can go on to paint your tips with the original, highly-pigmented polish to create a contrast between the nail bed and tips as demonstrated in the reel.
If you prefer going to your manicurist, do show them a reference, and ask them if they have any sheer, glass-like polishes that aren’t overloaded with pigment.
