There’s something about following a natural skincare regimen that really makes me happy. After reading numerous beauty blogs and watching tutorials on YouTube, I finally raided my kitchen to whip up some masks. But the catch is that not every ingredient is meant for everyone.

Whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin, each skin type has a different requirement in terms of what it needs. And if you love testing out DIY face masks to solve all your skin-related woes, then you’re in for a treat.

We spoke to Ritika Jayaswal, Founder & CEO, Nourish Mantra, who shared three amazing DIY face packs, one for each skin type.

“To get great skin it does not mean you have to take numerous trips to the salon. With the right ingredients from your home & kitchen, you can easily make masks for skin types. From yogurt and gram flour to aloe vera and honey, everything can be DIY-ed. So, the next time you want to treat yourself to some TLC, save yourself the money and get, set, DIY,” says Ritika.

Ready to whip up some mask? We bet you are.

For Oily Skin

Is your skin oily and prone to pimples? Then Multani Mitti (Fuller’s Earth) is a great ingredient to introduce in your DIY mask as it’s packed with antioxidants and minerals. This popular skincare ingredient cleanses and purifies the skin by pulling out dirt, oil, and other impurities. Mix it with rosewater to balance your skin’s pH levels, which will result in glowing, youthful skin.

The best thing about this ingredient is that it can be combined with several other household items for a specialized face mask to address certain skin concerns. If you have sensitive skin, then mix it with aloe vera or even honey. Or if you have acne-prone skin, then you can add some neem/ turmeric powder and rose water to it.

For Dry Skin

Loaded with proteins, calcium, probiotics, and lactic acid, yogurt is excellent for your skin. Its moisturizing properties nourish the skin from within, leaving you with supple and glowing skin. Moreover, the presence of lactic acid means it dissolves the dead skin without stripping your face of natural oils.

To enjoy its benefits in a face mask, mix 1-2 tablespoons of raw honey to a small bowl of yogurt and apply once a week.

For Combination Skin

If you’re someone with combination skin, then you have to try multi-masking because it is a gamechanger. A single mask may not suit all your skincare needs, which is why applying two or three different masks might be your best bet.

Do you have an oily T-zone? Then use a Multani Mitti or gram flour pack for the specific area and a nourishing avocado or banana mask for the rest of your face.

Ritika also warns us by saying, “While a lot of things lying around at our home are safe to use on our faces, there are a few like lemon and baking soda that can prove to be too harsh on your skin. So, I suggest you do your research and preferably do a small patch test before you delve into the world of DIY face masks.”
