10 *Different* Types Of Braids EVERY Girl Should Try Once!

Braids make for the most versatile and pretty hairstyles. You can make them as simple and as complicated as you want, and they always look gorgeous no matter what. So we have for you 10 braid hairstyles that you can try at home. Read on to rock a different type of braid everyday!

1. The Reliable Regular Braid

Simple, reliable and SO easy to make. The regular braid is a lifesaver on bad hair days and looks fabulous on good hair days as well! Anyone with shoulder length hair or below can try it out!

Step 1: Detangle your hair and pull it back, making sure there’s no centre parting.

Step 2: Divide it into three roughly equal sections.

Step 3: Take the right section and cross it over the middle section.

Step 4: Now, take the left section and cross it over the middle section. Continue doing this till you reach the end and secure with a hair tie.

Step 5: You can gently pull each section of the braid if you want it to look fuller or simply let it sit tight – depending upon the kind of hairstyle you want.

2. The Basic Backwards Braid

The backwards braid or the reverse braid is a simple play on the regular braid. It looks stylish and again, anyone with medium to long hair can try it out. It’s perfect for when you want to add a twist to a regular plait.

Step 1: Divide your hair into three sections, either at the back or at the side if you want a side braid.

Step 2: Now take the right section and pull it under the middle section.

Step 3: Repeat with the left section, pulling it under the middle section.

Step 4: Continue till you reach the end and secure the braid with a hair tie.

Step 5: Curl any hair strands that are left loose and you’re ready to rock in style!

3. The Reverse Pull Through Braid

Want something that looks a little more dressy than regular braids? Try this very different braided hairstyle. Make sure to have plenty of small hair elastic bands at hand before you begin braiding.

Step 1: Detangle and pull all your hair back into a ponytail.

Step 2: Split the ponytail into two halves – the upper section and the lower section.

Step 3: Now, split the lower section into two vertical halves and bring them over the top section. Tie the two sections together with a hair elastic.

Step 4: Again, split the lower section into two halves and bring them over the top half, tying them together.

Step 5: Continue doing this till you reach the end and secure with another hair tie.

Step 6: Gently pull the outward edges of the braid if you want it to look fuller and you’re done!

Channel your inner mermaid with a simple fishtail braid. It’s actually so much easier than it looks! Try it out and we’re sure you’ll love it.

Step 1: Divide your hair into two sections, instead of three like in a regular braid.

Step 2: Take a piece of hair from the outer part of one section and pull it over the other half.

Step 3: Then, similarly, take a piece of hair from the outer part of that section and braid it in the opposite direction.

Step 4: Continue doing this till you reach the end and finish with a hair elastic.

Step 5: Gently pull each section of the braid for a slightly messier look and finish your fishtail braid.

You can’t go wrong with a classic French braid. This neat and simple hairstyle looks amazing whether you have a job interview or want to pull your hair back before clubbing!

Step 1: Pull all your hair back to get rid of the parting and gather a centre section on the top of your head, tying it with a clear hair elastic. This will be your centre section of the braid.

Step 2: Take one section of hair from each side and cross it over the centre section.

Step 3: Keep picking up thin chunks of hair and adding them to a section before crossing them over to the other side. Continue doing this till you reach the neck.

Step 4: Braid the rest of your hair like a regular braid, as explained in point one, and you’re ready to flaunt your French braid!

This stylish hairstyle is deceptively easy! It doesn’t require too much sectioning or weaving, making it perfect for mornings you don’t have too much time.

Step 2: Wrap a thin section of hair around the base of your ponytail and pin it to conceal the hair tie.

Step 3: Split your ponytail into two equal sections.

Step 4: Take the left section and cross it over to the right. Now take the right section and cross it over to the left. Continue doing this down the length of your hair.

Step 5: Finish with a hair tie and your rope braid is ready!

A fancy hairstyle for an evening party? The waterfall braid is what you need. Everyone with curly to straight hair can try it. And the best part? You don’t need to have long hair for this type of braid!

Step 1: Brush your hair and use a leave-in cream to tame it. Make a centre parting.

Step 2: From one side of the parting, take a thin strand of hair from the front and divide it into three sections.

Step 3: Cross the left section over the middle and then the right section over the middle.

Step 4: Then, when you repeat, let the right section fall and take a small section right next to it and cross it over the centre. Then do the same for the left section.

Step 5: Continue doing this till you reach the middle at the back of your head and finish by tying your hair with a clear elastic.

Step 6: Repeat this process on the other side as well. At the back, where the two waterfall braids meet, tie them together and accessorize with a pretty pin if you like.

10. The Zipper Braid

This hairstyle is a little tough, but once you master it, you can be sure that all eyes will be on you! Doesn’t it look awesome?

Step 1: Gather your hair back and take the top section of your hair. Divide the top section into two further sections.

Step 2: Of these two further sections, name the left section A and the right section B

Step 3: Now, take a strand of hair from the right side and weave it over B and under A.

Step 4: Take this strand over your head and hold it in your mouth for the time being.

Step 5: Now, take a strand of hair from the left side and weave it over B.

Step 6: Before weaving it under A, take the strand of hair in your mouth and merge it with A.

Step 7: Keep doing this till you reach your neck and then braid the rest of your hair into a regular braid or make a ponytail.
