Did Kabir Khan Cast Deepika Padukone For 83 Because Of Ranveer Singh? The Director Spills The Beans

After watching the trailer of 83, I was in awe of Deepika Padukone. DP as Romi Dev is impressive and It’s almost like watching Kapil Dev’s wife on-screen and not the actress. What makes it even more special is that it’s Deepika and Ranveer Singh’s shaadi ke baad wali peheli film! I couldn’t help but wonder if the two had been cast together in the movie as they’re a real-life couple too? But, it turns out, that’s not the reason. Director Kabir Khan recently opened up about his decision of casting the actress, and it has nothing to do with Ranveer. 

While talking to a leading daily, Kabir revealed, “Her (Deepika’s) casting has nothing to do with Ranveer. Yes, today, as a marketing campaign, it’s a thing to talk about. It’s a real-life couple coming together for the first time after marriage. However, I would have gone to Deepika even if she was not married to Ranveer.” He also added that he has admired her for years and thinks that she is a fantastic actress. We totes agree.  

Talking about Kapil’s wife, he explained, “Romi Dev’s character does not have a lot of screen time but it’s very significant. The energy that Romi brings was much needed. When I met Kapil and Romi a few years back, I realised that he is incomplete without her. And if that is the current mood, I am sure that would have been the case years back. The 1983 journey would have been incomplete without her presence in Kapil Dev’s life.” 

About 83, the movie that releases tomorrow, is based on India’s historic win against England at the 1983 World Cup. It sheds light on how the 14 cricketers beat the twice over World Champions, West Indies, and put India back onto the cricket world stage. 

Well, we’re sure every actor in the movie has done an incredible job and we can’t wait to watch it ASAP!
