Dia Mirza On Her Fascination With Wedding Finery & The Inspiration Behind Her Bridal Look
If we were to quote an example in timeless style and grace, just uttering Dia Mirza’s name would more than suffice. The actress became a sustainability champion way before it turned into the favourite buzzword of the fashion world and has stayed true to her ideals ever since. With her arsenal of comfy yet standout fashion picks, Dia has consistently proven that one can indeed mix effortless style with ethical choices. Today, she can very well be labelled the poster child of conscious Indian fashion and each one of her recent fashion outings has been proof enough.
From her resplendent bridal look to her breezy maternity fits, Dia has surely kept us on our toes with her impeccable fashion game this year. She recently turned showstopper for designer Sanjev Marwaaha and left us smitten in an ivory and gold lehenga set. We got an opportunity to catch up with the actress post Marwaaha’s show and talked to her about her personal style, bridal look, and wardrobe essentials. Edited excerpts below:
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is a reflection of who I am as a person so I’d say it is effortless, comfortable, and easy. I choose garments that are sustainable and textiles that one can celebrate.
How does Marwaaha’s latest collection resonate with your style?
I love everything about Sanjev’s new collection. It is ethnic, it is beautiful, it’s delicate, it’s ethereal, and it’s absolutely stunning.
It is primarily a bridal collection. What is it about an Indian bride’s finery that has always caught your fancy?
The most beautiful thing about being an Indian bride is that you can really celebrate the traditional inheritance of handicrafts. It is a centuries-old legacy that we get to embody and take forward. I love the fact that Indian brides get to wear some of the richest textiles and celebrate some of the most beautiful handicrafts.
Earlier this year, you tied the knot in the most quintessentially Indian bridal ensemble. What/who inspired your bridal look?
I was inspired by nature and the fact that we have this great inheritance and wanted to celebrate that. More than anything else, I realised that it is the bridal garment that you should be able to wear again. It should not be something that you just wear on the big day and put away. So I opted for a forever garment—a saree. I know I’d be able to wear it on different occasions and in different ways and I look forward to repeating it.
You have always kept it comfortable yet stylish. Any fashion advice that you would like to share with our readers?
Less is more has always been my mantra. I really care for grace and elegance and think that your own personality should shine in whatever you wear.
Three wardrobe basics that you can’t do without?
- Good underwear.
- A comfortable kaftan. God, haven’t we all discovered the power of a kaftan?
- A beautiful saree–something that you have inherited like mine from my great grandmother.
