Was Dharmendra & Shabana’s Kiss In RARKPK Awkward To Shoot? Here’s What Happened

Bollywood cinema is evolving and I am here for it. The biggest example of this shift in Hindi films’ dramatic romance sagas is Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. On the surface, it seems like a love story of Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, but the film has another surprise in store. Warning: Spoiler alert!

It was Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi’s kiss that made our hearts swell.

Finally, we have a mainstream Bollywood film celebrating love at all ages and in all forms. Recently, Dharmendra opened up on how the experience was in an interview. He said, “I am hearing that Shabana and I have surprised the audience with the kissing scene, and at the same time they have even applauded it. I think people weren’t expecting it and it came very suddenly which is why it created an impact.”

The veteran actor added that there was no awkwardness between him and Shabana while shooting the scene. “When Karan narrated the scene to us, I did not get excited. We understood it and I realised that it was something that the film required and wasn’t forcefully put in and I said I will do it.“

Karan’s Vision For Shabana & Dharmendra’s Kiss

KJo always envisioned a kiss between Shabana and Dharmendra while working on the film’s script. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani dialogue writer and co-screenplay writer Ishita Moitra talked about Karan’s vision in a media interaction. She said, “People couldn’t believe a kiss was coming. The kiss was always there in the script. Karan made sure that the kiss would be done in a very dignified way. I don’t think any of them had any issues.”

I love how gracefully Karan presented a mature love story in the prettiest aesthetics. IMO, Dharmendra and Shabana’s prem kahaani was the real winner in RARKPK.
