Bloggers are setting the sartorial mood on the street and designers are showcasing their Spring/Summer collections. Yes, it’s that time of the year again! The 30th edition of Amazon India Fashion Week SS18 is on and we’re here to tell you which trends to look out for. From the front row to the best sets, let’s see what direction fashion takes this season.
1. Rimzim Dadu
Rimzim Dadu, whose clientele includes Sonam Kapoor, showcased a collection which used unconventional surface textures. She opened the show with shredded zari cord sarees and set the mood for the evening. Her collection included structured shift dresses, crop tops and metallic sarees. The deconstruction and modification of materials left an earthy vibe in the air.
2. The First Cut Designers
Sheer, layers and relaxed styles were the common denominator in the collections presented by India’s promising new designers.
Aureole
The sustainable clothing brand owned prints, earthy colours and overlayers in their collection.
Shreya Samanta
Shreya’s collection was all about festive wear and unconventional drapes. The subtle hint of florals in their collection gave it an elegant appeal.
The Third Floor by Saloni Sakaria
Sheer, satin and layers dominated the ramp for The Third Floor. Unique layers and a mix of deep, dark colours along with subtle hues made for quite a mesmerising collection.
Suparna Som
Phool Pata theme and slow fashion came together in Suparna Som’s collection. Her collection was inspired by the flora and fauna of West Bengal, featured boxy styles and fuss free silhouettes.
3. Nida Mahmood
The collection was a collaboration between designer Nida Mahmood and lifestyle brand Deviee by Milind Soman. Nida has taken inspiration from the four different regions of the country for this collection. Ikat from the east to rich Banarasi brocades from the south, the collection was a unique take on women’s active wear. Milind Soman closing the show was the cherry on top!
4. Samant Chauhan
Samant Chauhan’s collection was an ode to the blank canvas, to free art you see on the streets and to all the metaphors for life and light. We saw a lot of whites in feminine silhouettes in his collection, all adorned with floral prints. Though the cuts were feminine in the conventional form, the florals added an edge to all the looks.
5. Wendell Rodricks
Whites, clashing pop colours and whole lotta ruffle graced the ramp for Wendell Rodricks. We saw pastel colours along with hues of blue and flowy silhouettes. Clearly making a statement that ruffles are here to stay!
6. Anupamaa by Anupama Dayal
Fringes and florals seems to be *the* trend for resort wear. Anupama’s collection surprised us with fun yet bold prints, a balanced combination of bright colours and pastel shades. Topping that off was floral headgear and dramatic eye makeup.
7. JJ Valaya
This year is special for JJ Valaya as he celebrates his 25th year in the industry! Men in black and women in deep shades of pop colours and waist belts made quite a statement at the ramp. These are some royal JJ Valaya designs this year’s bride-to-bes should totally be eyeing. We couldn’t have asked for a better end to day 1 at AIFW.
