Colour-blocking is having a major moment in the fashion world right now – but we don’t mean the two-tone kind. We’re talking about sporting a single, solid hue from head to toe. Yes, it might sound a tad daunting, but it bears the ability to single-handedly up your sartorial confidence by making you look effortless yet polished (while saving you a ton of time!) And who better to turn to for style lessons other than our favourite B-town fashionistas?
Recently, for Rajeev Masand’s Roundtable discussion, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, and Anushka Sharma were spotted endorsing this versatile trend (coincidentally, of course!) looking every bit as stylish as they always do.

DP’s fashion choices always have us swooning. We love her super chic separates from Maison Valentino’s Fall/Winter 2018-2019 collection. A high-neck blouse neatly tucked into wide-leg pants with the utmost sophistication. The beauty of this outfit, however, lies in the details – the tie-back neckline, bishop sleeves with puff shoulders, and the tie-up details to accentuate her waist. If you’re a colour-block novice, opt for a softer shade like this vintage rose that Shaleena Nathani, Deepika’s stylist has chosen for her. Brighter colours may be intimidating, and confidence is central to any look! We do feel she could’ve ditched the pointy-toe nude pumps and gone for something more statement-worthy in a contrasting hue.

This year we saw shades of red dominate the runways and the street akin. Anushka Sharma champions the colour fearlessly and stuns in this Vermillion ensemble styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania proving that vivid really IS the new black. We love Anushka for demonstrating how co-ordinating single tone separates can make a solid impact (pun intended). She wears a button-down shirt with an asymmetric hi-low hemline and ruffles in the front, which she pairs immaculately with matching high-waisted flared pants with a cascading ruffle trim and side slits. She accentutates her outfit with mismatched hoop earrings and stacked rings from Misho Designs. Extra points for those perplex ankle strap heels.
But wait! We saved the best for last.

Alia Bhatt might be as cute as a button but lately, we’ve been noticing her transition, and embrace, a more sophisticated style to compliment her vivacity. Here she slays in this show-stopping purple jumpsuit from Galvan London and we cannot stop looking at it! Pantone declared Ultraviolet as the colour of 2018 and we are declaring that Alia wore it best. A round of applause to her stylist Ami Patel for underplaying a loud tone by making it look fuss-free with minimal distractions. The jumpsuit features a corset with a notched neckline and wide-leg pants, that gently accentuate her petite waist. Did you know wearing the same colour from head-to-toe can also add inches to your height. If you’re feeling adventurous, opt for strappy stilettos in the same colour instead of a neutral pair like Alia.
So ladies, raid your closets for tonal separates and strut away!
