Rom-coms are my absolute favourite. I grew up watching them and dreaming that one day my life would turn out like a dreamy fairytale too. So, by the time I had turned 17 and hadn’t found myself a boyfriend, I became impatient. Thankfully, college happened, and boys walked into my hitherto all-girls world. And soon enough, I fell in love.
Raman was a friend’s friend, and what I really liked about him was that his manners were totally in place. Unlike other boys around me, he wasn’t someone who’d crack lame jokes and just try to be touchy-feely all the time. He was one of those rare, decent guys who genuinely cared about people around them. And that just made falling in love with him so much more easy.

Neither of us had been in a relationship before and we both thought that we’ve found the one true love of our lives. But because both of us lived with our parents, and weren’t entirely comfortable with PDA, we hadn’t had our first kiss for quite long after our we started seeing each other. We used to get turned on simply by hugging each other, so we kinda knew that “the kiss” would blow our minds, and oh, we were practically dying for it to happen.
Fortunately, a common friend decided to host a party at her place when her parents weren’t in town, and it gave us all the privacy we needed.
After hanging around and chilling with our other friends for a while, we sneaked out to the rooftop, and stood behind the cover of a huge water tank. Raman wrapped me in his arms, with my back against the tank, and repeatedly told me how much he loved me. And then, he came forward to kiss me, but I hesitated.
“What’s wrong, baby?”, he asked me, looking worried.
“I am just shy… I don’t know what to do. I have never kissed anyone before” I told him.
He laughed and said, “Neither have I, silly, just follow me…” and kissed me.
I felt a wet mouth grabbing mine, and trying to… eat it. It wasn’t what I had imagined it to be. It wasn’t magical, it wasn’t mindblowing, it wasn’t tasty… it was plain weird.
And I was practically just standing there, against the tank, while he “kissed” me. I couldn’t even concentrate on his hands, that were moving slowly under my shirt, because well, too much was happening to my mouth.
I felt out of breath, and finally had to stop him. Apparently he liked it, for he was ready for a second go at it. Thankfully, we heard some noise, and saw a group of people bringing the party upstairs, and he couldn’t attempt it again. But the sloppy, wet kisses continued for a couple of weeks, and I just didn’t have the heart to tell my boyfriend that he didn’t know how to kiss.
But after a while, I had to take matters in my hand, and decided to discuss this with a close friend, who was kind enough to arm me with some awesome tips on kissing.
The next day, I asked my boyfriend to meet me at a friend’s place. As soon as he stepped in, I asked him to stand with his arms behind him, not kiss me and let me kiss him, instead.

You should have seen the look on his face after I was done. He looked at me like I was his goddess, who could have asked him for anything in that moment, and he would have happily given it. That feeling was amazing, and for the first time, I enjoyed kissing him too.
Boys do not know it all. Sometimes, you gotta show them how things are done!
