The government took a call on December 12th, 2017 that condom ads are too indecent and inappropriate to be seen during the regular television hours. And so the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) and the Indian Broadcasting Foundation decided that condom ads will not be aired from 6 AM to 10 PM, because it has a negative impact on children. Here’s my question though, how does this help the raising number of abortions in India and the amount of unprotected sex because of the lack of sex education in the country?
Poonam Mutreja, executive director of Population Foundation of India, stated that this action may be counterproductive towards raising the required awareness amongst the younger generation. She said to HT India, “There are 13% unwanted pregnancies in India, there are nearly 15 million abortions. This decision is a red flag for me. If the complaints were against the content of a product, then we can review that and make it more culturally sensitive.”
So I went scouting the internet for ads that should be banned instead of condom ads, because they are definitely ‘repulsive and inappropriate’.
1. This Was Just Cringy
2. Half-Naked Women Love Cars?
3. As Much As We Love Milind Soman, This Ad Was Too Uncomfortable
4. Aamsutra Is Wildly Inappropriate
5. Stop Blaming The Weather For Your Tiny Brain
Hence, while you’re busy going after condom ads, I present to you some wildly sexist, colourism promoting, and honestly just downright strange ads you can ban instead.
Whatever happens, stay safe, girls!
