A fuzz-free saree instead of the OTT lehenga, vintage details, and a million-dollar smile. While the year 2020 has introduced us to the enchanting beauty of the minimal bride, it has also revived the classic bride.
Ironically, the classic Indian bride in the truest sense of the word, took shape in the 70s and 90s when, all thanks to cinema, the brides began following a coherent theme. This theme largely revolved around vermillion sarees, longe sleeved blouses, a delicate nath, and heirloom jewels that were passed on for generations. And while this aesthetic found its resurrection in 2018 with Sonam Kapoor’s traditional red bridal lehenga and Deepika Padukone’s Kanjeevaram saree, 2020 has certainly catalysed it. Thus, when we say that we recently chanced upon a classic Indian bride, we mean it in the strictest sense of the term!
Mrinalini tied the knot with the love of her life Kunal earlier this year in an intimate at-home ceremony and it is her classic bride avatar that we are totally crushing on right now. Curious as to what makes her a truly classic Indian bride for us? Read on:
The Details Of Her Vermilion Saree
The floral sequins work and a solid golden lace further accentuated by the traditional kiran is what brings out the classic element of her red saree. Note how the handwork variations have been kept to a minimum in the design? That too checks the box when it comes to the classic Indian bride look!
That Blouse Though
As fun and chic as the plunging Sabysachi blouse happens to be, it does not even come close to the simple blouses that brides used to opt for back in the 70s and 80s. Back then it was all about long sleeves (mostly elbow length, sometimes full) and modest necklines. Mrinalini’s velvet blouse reminds us of the same aesthetic with its full sleeves and its jewel neckline.
The Jewels
Instead of going for elaborate, painstakingly layered sets of jewels, Mrinalini opted for a traditional albeit heavy necklace. We especially love how she chose to wear matching hathpools and completed the look with a mathapatti.
The Face
Back in the day, a lot of Hindu families had the tradition of making brides sit for pheras with wet tresses right after a shower. Of course, there was no concept of celeb MUAs and HD makeup looks. The most that a bride could do was quickly whip some kajal and lipstick together for a put-together look.
Mrinalini’s light base that makes her skin look pretty clean and red lips gets pretty close to that look. Loving it and how!
So fam what’s your take on this modern yet classic Indian bride?
