With fewer desi divas and some lacklustre fits, Cannes Day 5 was quite thanda for India. Except for Hina Khan’s sophisticated gold gown, there were hardly any show-stopping looks in sight and all we can do is wonder ‘why?!’ Here are five looks that we hold responsible for the dry day:
Aditi Rao Hydari In Mark Bumgarner
Aditi Rao Hyadari finally made her Cannes red carpet debut last evening in a vibrant Mark Bumgarner gown. The look featured a slit tulip cut gown that was layered with magenta silk. The contrasting fabric sat on the waist like a peplum detail and went all the way back to the end in a trail. Admittedly, red and pink are Aditi’s colours but that’s just adding to our disappointment. This could have been a great look had it been for a different cut. The current garment does not do anything for the actress and the layering is overpowering her. So is the boat neck. This is def not the best pick for Aditi.
Aditi Rao Hydari In Mugler
The Sabyasachi saree that Aditi wore a couple of days ago in Cannes is the aesthetic where her personality shines. It is the simple cuts and silhouettes that bring attention to her gorgeous face that works best for the actress. Sadly, she and her stylist missed this fact yesterday as Aditi was drowned in a sea of details. Just like her Mark Bumgarner gown, the actress’s Mugler LBD did not work for her. From the asymmetrical cowl neck to structured detail on the waist, everything felt too distracting.
Deepika Padukone In Louis Vuitton (Part 1)
Deepika Padukone opted for chaos yesterday as she stepped out in a rather incoherent Louis Vuitton assemble. This outfit comprised a fuchsia pink midi skirt, a printed white shirt, knee-high chocolate boots, and a handbag. Nothing. We repeat, nothing, in the outfit belonged together and this has been her most disappointing look at Cannes so far.
Deepika Padukone In Louis Vuitton (Part 2)
We are beginning to wonder if DP being named Louis Vuitton’s new House Ambassador is actually as awesome as we deemed it to be. This is because they are making her wear kuch bhi at this point. Yesterday, we spotted her in tailored shorts and a baggy turtle neck outfit that felt too dated to be true. DP deserves better.
Regina Cassandra in Kartikeya
It won’t take a fashion expert to tell that whatever’s happening with Resina’s outfit here cannot be right. What are those sleeves and why on Earth did she agree to wear that neckline. Nope, this is not working at all.
Here’s hoping that the desi divas make up for the damp show on Day 6 now. *fingers crossed*
