Priyanka Ghura  |  May 6, 2016

From the perfect lehenga to your makeup, you may think you have your wedding look all figured out, but a hairdo gone wrong is enough to kill your carefully put together look! Since it is the most important day of your life, we give you a few tips to make sure your hair looks as fabulous as ever. It is the one day, after all, when you can’t afford to have any tress trouble.

We’ve already told you how to prep your mane and get the perfect hair before D-Day, now we give you a few wedding hair dos and don’ts to ensure you have nothing to worry about on your shaadi day, aside from concentrating on marital bliss!

Do Get a Haircut before Your Wedding

You want your mane to look healthy and lush, so make sure to get it cut before the big day. Get a trim a week before your functions begin to get rid of dry split ends. If you want to change up your style and get a proper haircut than schedule one for 3-4 weeks in advance so that your strands have plenty of time to settle into the new style.

Don’t Fall for Fads and Trends

You don’t want to look back at your wedding photos and regret going in for a particular style. It’s better to stick to a classic look to channel some timeless elegance rather then fall for what’s IN at the moment.

Do Get Your Outfit First

It’s important to have your bridal lehenga or sari picked before you start thinking about your hairstyle for D-Day. This way, you can choose a style that will enhance a pretty embellishments, a detailed neckline or a sexy back. Whether you pick an elegant updo or free-flowing locks should depend on your outfit and how best your hair can compliment it.

Don’t Over-Accessorize

A few bejewelled pins or a pretty maang tika is absolutely perfect. Don’t go overboard, please. Forget about OTT hair accessories and tiaras paired with all the jewellery you’re going to be wearing around your neck and ears and on your arms! Less is always more, and you don’t want to look like a Christmas tree. 😉

Do Have a Few Hair Trials

Visiting your stylist well in advance to try out different styles with your hair is an absolute must. Even if you have zeroed in how you want your hair to look, you need to them try it on your hair beforehand. You don’t want any surprises on the actual day, right? Make sure to try out a few variations as well as trying each of the styles you have chosen for each of your functions.

Don’t Stress about the Length of Your Hair

Gorgeous, long locks that fall below your waist is something that most Indian brides wish for when it comes to their big day. But contrary to popular belief, you don’t need super-long strands in order to style your hair for your wedding. Even shoulder-length hair is fine, since a skilled stylist will be able to turn it into a voluminous do.

Do Have an Emergency Hair Kit

Unfortunately, you can’t have your stylist trailing behind you during your wedding functions. Thanks to humidity or all that dancing at your sangeet, it is possible for your style to go a bit awry during the course of the evening. Make sure your sister/ bestie has an emergency kit ready in her bag: this should contain a few bobby pins, a comb and a small can of hairspray to fix any out-of-place strands or a loosened updo.

Don’t Try Anything Drastic

Before your wedding is not the time to go in for a complete makeover. You may want to change up your look, but a drastic haircut or a colour change doesn’t always end well. Don’t try anything extreme if you don’t want to deal with any last-minute hair woes.

Do Get a Conditioning Treatment

Hair spas and conditioning treatments at a reputed salon are a must for every bride. For soft, shiny hair that is healthy and bouncy in time for your wedding day, schedule an appointment every few weeks leading up to the big date.
