Are you a bride who would say ‘Main toh apni shaadi mein Manish Malhotra wala lehenga pehnungi’ but then realise that it’s easier said than done, because budget contraints? Well dear bride-to-be, that’s almost all of us out there and therefore we totally feel you. But just because you cannot afford to buy a Manish Malhotra or Sabyasachi design for your big day, it doesn’t mean you can’t take inspiration from them too!
Nahi samjhe? Come, I’ll explain. If you’re a Delhiite or live in the city, you really have nothing to worry about because everything you will ever need to create your dream bridal lehenga from scratch is available in this treasure chest. Right from fabrics to embellishments is tucked away in the hustling by lanes of the capital city. So, here’s a list of where to go to buy what. Hope it helps!!!
Fabrics:
There is no dearth of marketplaces that sell gorgeous fabrics of all kinds in Delhi. You will find silk, raw silk, Banarasi silk, brocade, net, georgette, chiffon and every other fabric that you can possibly think of in all colours, prints and budget ranges. You can just head to Chandni Chowk (Nai Sarak, especially) or Lajpat Nagar, and you will find numerous fabric shops bunched together, selling the prettiest materials of all kinds.
You can find can-can (the material used to give volume to the lehenga) at mostly all these fabric shops, so that will be sorted too!
We Suggest: KC Creations and Ramji Sons in Lajpat Nagar and RK Fabrics and all other stores on Nai Sarak in Chandni Chowk
Borders:
Once the fabric is selected, the main work is done. Depending on what kind of material you’ve picked, you will now need suitable borders. Kinari Bazaar in Chandni Chowk is a heaven for borders of all kinds. Be it ones with Kundan work, embroidery, wide, narrow, cut-work or any other kind you want.
We Suggest: Check out the entire stretch of Kinari Bazaar because it is lined with border shops on both sides and The Prakash Collection in Lajpat Nagar

Embellishments:
Let’s move on to adding that extra something to your ensemble – embellishments! Tassels, zarkans, stones, gota patti patches, crystals, etc. Again, all of these are widely available in Kinari Bazaar and Lajpat Nagar. You can also check out Jwala Heri market and Kamla Nagar, but they have limited options.
We Suggest: Deep Moti Centre and Gupta Zari Emporium in Chandni Chowk
Latkans:
What is a bridal lehenga without some beautiful latkans on the dupatta and the blouse? So, to give your lehenga that stunning finishing touch, look for some pretty latkans that will add so much grace and elegance to your shaadi style.
We Suggest: Alisha Latkan Store, Mayra Lace And Latkan Store and Banty Latkan Wale in Chandni Chowk
P.S. Before you go around fishing for all this stuff, make sure you look for a boutique or designer who will put your dream lehenga together. You cannot mess this up, so do your research – you don’t want any tailoring hiccups. Once you’re done finding the designer, ask him/her all the things that they will need to put your lehenga together. And now that all your materials are in place, all you have to do is wait for your dream bridal lehenga to come to life.
