In India, raising an issue with a film is a big challenge, but Shoojit Sircar’s Pink has connected very well with women. It’s the story of three young working women who were being harassed by three guys. The movie was surprisingly very close to reality, with no cliches, no dreamy ending and no Bollywood masala. It just broke all stereotypes about women in the most amazing way. The gripping storyline, the powerful dialogues and some amazing performances by the lead actors – the film had everything in just the right quantity.
We’re quite sure that you must have been in a situation where society’s hypocrisy for women must have annoyed you. The definition of a “good” girl must have bothered you at some point or the other. Good girls don’t drink, good girls don’t work night shifts, good girls don’t hang out with male friends and the most importantly, good girls are virgins. And if you don’t stand close to society’s ideal of a good girl, you are judged, you are called names and fingers are pointed at your character.
Pink stood up against all of that – and kudos to the folk over at The Pink Revolution for illustrating a few things we want our society to know…
1. If a girl works night shifts, it doesn’t make her “characterless”. Guys also work night shifts, so how is it any different from that?

2. Touching, patting or hugging a male friend doesn’t mean we want to get physical with him. It simply means that we’re comfortable with him!

4. You can’t treat us differently because we’re from the north-eastern states. We are just the same!

5. If we keep smiling, that doesn’t mean we’re interested! Smiling is not a “hint”, it’s simply because we are confident!

6. Our outfits don’t define our character. A girl wearing a mini skirt is no less of a woman than a girl wearing a salwar suit! Stop judging us by the length of our dresses!

7. We hang out with our friends simply because we love doing so, not because we’re “awara”!

8. Our virginity doesn’t define our character! It’s our body, it’s our choice and it’s nobody else’s business!
