If we count the number of times netizens have demanded a ban on certain movies and shows for no good reason, then we’d be sitting here all day long. Remember how #BoycottNetflix trended on Twitter because a few people thought that the web series called A Suitable Boy was offensive? Or how certain jewellery brands’ ads were taken down because they hurt religious sentiments? NGL, Indians have come dangerously close to making boycott a trend and honestly, we’re concerned.
One would assume that during such tough times, people would focus their time on something that actually matters (read spread awareness about COVID vaccines, new guidelines, etc.). But interestingly enough, netizens have more important issues in hand to worry about. One of them being Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Apparently, social media users want to boycott the actress because she has demanded a fee for her upcoming movie. Absurd, right? Wait till you read more.
The grapevine is abuzz that Bebo may play the role of Goddess Sita in Alaukik Desai’s movie adaptation of the Hindu epic, Ramayan. And, she has apparently charged Rs. 12 crores for it. While every professional should be paid for their services, netizens believe that Kareena shouldn’t demand a hefty amount to play the role. Moreover, they also think that casting her in the movie would hurt religious sentiments.
Soon after, #BoycottKareenaKhan started trending on Twitter, and here’s what Twitterati have to say:
Oh boy! Imagine people not getting paid for their work anymore. If that’s not one of the most illogical things you have heard in a while, then we don’t know what is. Moreover, netizens have been suggesting that Kangana Ranaut or Yami Gautam play the role.
P.S. The same netizens wanted to wrongfully boycott Kangana’s movie, Manikarnika a few months ago. Just saying!
Wow, we wonder who’s gonna pay our bills if we don’t get paid for our work!
